Senior Journalist Jagdish Kharel has assumed office after taking the oath as the Communication and IT Minister. MoCIT Minister Jagdish Kharel has also taken his first decision to provide Free internet (Wifi) in public places of 10 cities, including Kathmandu, and one in each province.
The incumbent minister’s decision to provide Free Wifi in public places is planned to materialize within the next few months. He added that the free Wifi will be implemented through Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA).
Further, he states that in two month’s period, free Wifi will be made available in Kathmandu. And such service will be gradually expanded to public places in more cities in each province. Check out: Best tips on how you can safely use free WiFi hotspots

A few months back, NTA ruled to term Free Wifi with mobility as illegal. The decision was not favorable to the ISPs, and they were preparing to challenge it in court.
However, the latest decision for such Free Wifi also needs to comply with the NTA ruling and regulations, unless they are amended.
