Xiaomi 17 Pro Max and Xiaomi 17 Pro have been launched globally. The naming scheme has been changed to align them with the iPhone 17 series, but these Xiaomi phones come with a secondary display on the back panel. These are the flagship phones from the Chinese phone maker and will compete at the top end of the smartphone market. Let’s explore more about these handsets and their official price ranges.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max and Xiaomi 17 Pro specifications and features

Design and Display

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max and Pro phones come with an aluminum frame, matte finish, and dragon crystal glass protection. They get IP68 level dust and protection. But the biggest innovation here is the secondary screen on the rear panel, which works for many widgets, functions, and features. We have flip phones with an extra screen, but on a regular phone, this could be a trend setter in the days to come. So, credit where it’s due!

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max official design

Sharing more likeness with iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max features a 6.9-inch display, while the Xiaomi 17 Pro flaunts a more compact 6.3-inch screen. They are both LTPO AMOLED screens with up to 3500 nits of peak brightness.

Xiaomi 17 Pro models come with a secondary screen

Both Xiaomi 17 Pro Max come with a 2.9-inch secondary display with LTPO AMOLED technology. It’s got a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 3500 nits of peak brightness. The Xiaomi 17 Pro features a slightly smaller 2.7-inch LTPO AMOLED secondary screen on the back but shares the same 3500 nits of brightness and 120Hz refresh rate.

Powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

The Xiaomi 17 Pro models are powered by Android’s fastest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. It consists of eight cores with two prime cores at 4.6 GHz and six performance cores at 3.62 GHz. Xiaomi starts the Pro Max model with 512 GB till 1 TB of storage and 12/16 GB of RAM. Likewise, the Pro model’s base RAM is 12 GB and starts with 256 GB of storage. There’s also a 16/512 GB and 16/1 TB option available. But it depends on which specced phones make it to other regions. Both these phones boot on HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.

Cameras

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max and Xiaomi 17 Pro come with three 50 MP cameras consisting of one wide, one periscope telephoto, and one ultrawide shooter. The telephoto camera is capable of 5x zoom and supports OIS. It also supports 8K video at up to 30 fps. The front also gets a 50 MP selfie shooter with 4k video shooting capacity.

Xiaomi’s flagship devices have become one of the best in the market for photography in its collaboration with Leica. This should be no exception, and in fact, its cameras will offer improved night photography and better overall results with these latest models.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
