Why are NTC worker unions protesting on Magh 22?
NTC employees are demanding regulation amendments and fair facilities from the company. They complain that many employees at the company have been serving in the same positions for up to 14 years due to the absence of regulation amendments. They have expressed that career development prospects have been affected since the Service Regulations 2008. Suspension of promotions at the officer level has created an imbalance in the career development path.
Unions have voiced their dissatisfaction over the suspension of the bonus approved by the general assembly and the distribution of dearness allowance (cost-of-living allowance) as per the decision of the Government of Nepal. They say that the disruption of facilities reduces employee morale and productivity.
Together, the worker unions have also demanded a faster process in implementing a new billing system. Just recently, NT canceled the convergent real-time billing (CRTB) tender. The unions say that the delay in bringing in a new billing system could put user data at risk.
