Historic record in passport data migration
According to the passport department, old passport details of about 10 million (1 crore) Nepali citizens have been securely transferred to the new system. It’s claimed that this is the largest-scale data migration in Nepal’s digital history.
The department has made it clear that since the new system has just gone live, technical challenges may emerge in the initial phase of the implementation. Stating that it is natural that there may be some slowdown in the system in the initial days, the department has urged the public to be patient.
The department’s technical team and experts from the company developing the system are on ‘stand-by’ 24 hours a day, monitoring and improving for the speedy and long-term resolution of such potential problems, the notice states.

The department has also made a special appeal to people to help make the new system more stable and effective. It has urged only those in dire need to apply at this initial stage for it to work smoothly.
The department says that the new passport management system will stabilize in three months.
