The company has identified these locations with concerned government agencies involved in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.

Ncell provides free satellite internet in Bhotekoshi flood-hit areas
Ncell is providing free satellite internet in the hardest-hit Bhotekoshi flood-hit areas, including communities, holding and relief centres, temporary camps, emergency response locations, and other areas where terrestrial networks are disrupted. According to the telco, the solution has been installed at three crucial locations in Nuwakot and is being deployed in other flood-affected areas.
The private telco adds that the satellite delivers the internet signal directly to a satellite-connected device on the ground. The device then provides WiFi connectivity in the nearby areas, helping people stay connected when the regular mobile or internet (data) service is down.
Ncell obtained NTA permission for satellite service
Ncell says that it deployed satellite communication after acquiring approvals from the government agencies, including the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA).
“Reaching people where they need it most, Ncell has enabled immediate access to satellite communication at three locations in Nuwakot, where crucial communication services were severely impacted. This will ensure the availability of satellite-powered internet services to support rescue and relief efforts and help affected communities stay connected during this difficult time,” said Dilli Ram Shrestha, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer of Ncell.
Ncell is providing free data, voice, and SMS to the flood-affected citizens from the first day, August 26, benefiting over 3 lakh users. Additionally, the company has contributed Rs 10 million through the Ncell Foundation to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.
The company says that the satellite-powered connectivity initiative is a further demonstration of its determination to stand with the people of Nepal at a time when staying connected is critical.
In its press statement, Ncell says that its commitment goes beyond rebuilding towers and repairing lines. It’s also focused on finding every possible way to connect people when conventional networks cannot serve them. The roads are cut off, fiber has incurred damages and families are waiting for news, therefore, connectivity is currently more than convenience, a lifeline.
