The then chairman of Smart Telecom, Sarbesh Joshi, has been arrested by the Nepal Police. He has been taken into custody on possible embezzlement of the company’s assets. Nepal Telecommunications Authority revoked the license of Smart Cell back in 2080 after it failed to pay dues to the regulator.
He was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Monday, Baisakh 21, from Khursanitar, Kathmandu, on charges of fraud and breach of trust.
Smart’s license to operate telecom services was automatically revoked in Baisakh 2080 as per the Telecom Act, 2053. Following this, NTA took control of Smart’s assets, and the company went under the ownership of the government. Smart’s assets, infrastructure, systems, towers, etc., in accordance with Rule 18 of the ‘Telecommunication Service Providers’ Asset Management Regulations, 2079′.
Where is Sarbesh Joshi of Smart Telecom arrested?
Sarbesh Joshi has been arrested on accusations of trying to violate the rights of the Government of Nepal over the property taken under control by NTA. The CIB has shared that Mr. Joshi is currently in custody, and further investigation is underway.
The police said that CIB took Mr. Joshi into custody with an arrest warrant from the Kathmandu District Court. He currently lives in Khursanitar, KMC 02.
