Indian telecom company Vodafone Idea has recorded a 3.7 Gbps peak speed in 5G trial, a record to date in India. The company said it registered the highest numbers in the mmWave spectrum band.

Vodafone has been testing the fifth-gen network in Pune and Gandhinagar. The company employees its end-to-end captive network of Cloud Core, new generation Transport and RAN (Radio Access Network).

Vodafone Idea (Vi) achieved the latest numbers in with low latency using Non-Standalone architecture and nursing NR Radios.

Vi is operating its 5G trails in mmWave high bands 26 GHz, and 3.5 GHz spectrum bands. The telco says it has also achieved a download speed of 1.5 Gbps in the 3.5 GHz band during the trials in both the trial venues.

Jagbir Singh, CTO, Vodafone Idea Limited, said, “We are pleased with the speed and latency results in the initial stages of the 5G trials on the Govt allocated 5G spectrum bands. Having established a robust 4G network pan-India, delivering the fastest 4G speeds and a 5G-ready network, we are now testing the Next-Gen 5G technology to be able to bring a truly digital experience for enterprises and consumers in India, in the future.”

India’s 5G Spectrum Auction Set For 2022

Indian Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the auction for the 5G spectrum would be possible in February 2022 or earlier in January. India’s 5G ambitions have taken a new turn after Indian developers built their own regional version; 5Gi which could force telcos to make a substantial modification to their existing 5G infrastructure.

5G is a revolution in mobile connectivity which would usher in entirely advanced communication. Its ultra-high bandwidth speed combined with low latency will allow its application in manufacturing, health, education, and even auto driving.

Other Indian telcos Airtel and Reliance have demonstrated the 5G test with a throughput of 1 Gbps. Vodafone’s 3.7 Gbps is the highest so far registered in the world’s second-largest telecommunications market.

5G In Nepal

NTC has been the frontrunner leading the 5G race but it has taken its fair share of delay. First, the spectrum allocation is still in no sight, and secondary, the telecom authority NTA has not approved NTC’s 5G proposal. Despite all the odds, NTC is expecting to launch 5G by the month of Poush 2078.

What is your take on Vodafone’s 3.7 Gbps speed mark? Do we need mobile broadband speed in Gbps or are you content with 4G capabilities? Do share your inputs with us in the comments below.
