NTC’s new MD appointment is forced on hold after Supreme Court gave an interim order into the appointment suspending the telco’s search for the new Managing Director.

The search for NTC’s new MD drew controversy over the new amendment over the age bar of the successor in the office. The Supreme Court now has decreed the MoCIT not to implement the new directive. Meanwhile, the court has also issued a show-cause notice into the procedure for the appointment of the new NTC MD.

NTC’s MD Appointment Issue

The Council of Ministers, under the recommendation of MoICT, had passed the MD Appointment and Facility Directives 2078. The latest directive came with a new amendment lowering the candidate’s age from 58 to 56 years old.

Based on the directive, NTC posted the vacancy for the new MD on Mangsir 22, 2078. The current officeholder Dilliram Adhikari’s tenure is coming to an end on Poush 22.

However, the new age bar criteria didn’t go down well with the parties-in-concern. Subsequently, internal employees of the telco lodged the cases at the Supreme Court seeking an interim order into the case.

Case Lodged by Former-Employees

NTC’s former Deputy Manager Mr. Surendra Man Singh had sought an interim decision by the Supreme Court against the government and the Minister of Council office.

Likewise, a former employee at NTC, Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pokharel also lodged a case on Poush 2 against the Supreme Court, the government, PM, and the Council of Ministers.

A court session presided by judge Ishwari Prasad Khatiwoda gave an interim order on December 20 into the case stating the defendant will be summoned for their retort.

The parties dissatisfied with the new amendment believe the government is making the amendment to hire in the official of their choice. As it stands, the appointment process for the new MD at NTC is now uncertain. The telco will now have to wait a little longer for the services of the new MD at the company.

What do you think of the amendment to the appointment procedure for the new NTC MD? Do you see any implicit bias to bring in the government’s own favored personnel or it’s just heresy? Do share your opinions in the comments below.
