Smart Telecom (Smart cell) has launched 4G network in Nepal. Along with the 4G launch, Smart Telecom has also provided some offer for its 4G and data service. In the first phase, Smart cell 4G is only available in Kathmandu and Pokhara which is also a soft launch. They claim Smart cell 4G to be the highest speed in Nepal as explained in earlier post. Along with the smart cell 4G offer, they have implemented per second call tariff, being the first operator to implement in Nepal. Smart Cell exciting offer includes per second calls, free texting in IM apps, 1 paisa per second call rate.
Smart cell only has 2G network and 4G network. The voice calls can be made with 2G GSM network whereas the high speed data is provided with 4G where available. They still have Edge, GPRS internet for slow data from 2G which is still being used by many subscribers. So, they might not invest in 3G for simultaneous voice calls or high speed data.

With the smart cell 4G launch, they have provided one month of free texting in messaging apps like Viber, Whatsapp. As the tariff of voice calls in smart to smart is 1 paisa per second. They are also providing the 1 paisa per second call rate to other operators on first recharge pack. The validity of the pack is 90 days and can be bought at Rs 99. To activate the offer, you need to dial *141*4*2#. Along with the above benefits, you will also get the following:
- 4G 500 MB data free
- 99 SMS daily free
- Viber whatsapp messaging free for 30 days.
Data packages in Smart cell 4G are:
- 1 GB at Rs 235 for 30 days
- 750 MB at Rs 145 for 15 days
- 500 MB at Rs 85 for 7 days
- 75MB at Rs 15 for a day
To increase the excitement for smart cell 4G, they are providing double data in the above packages. So, for example if you buy 1 GB pack at Rs 235, you will be getting 1 GB more data (altogether double of 1 GB= 2GB data) for 30 days.
How to take Smart cell 4G data?
To take smart cell data packages, customer need to dial *141# and select the smart data packages of their choice. The 141 USSD number is for all of the Smart Cell offer and packages like voice pack, SMS packs and data packs. Whereas for smart cell 4G packs, customer can directly dial *141*6# and select the data packages there. They have also got some attracting unlimited offers and packs in their 2G, 4G. Smart cell 4G in more cities.
After these two cities, Smart will launch 4G in more cities of Nepal. In second, they have planned to extend Smart cell 4G to Chitwan, Nepalgunj and Birgunj. We have no idea for their plan to provide coverage in Eastern region, as we have been getting lot of queries from Dharan, Jhapa, Biratnagar.
Smart cell implements per second basis call tariff.
Smart cells says they have implemented call tariff per second basis. So, the pulse duration for their charging of voice calls will be per second, not only national but also for international calls.
- The tariff of the calls in smart cell will be 1 paisa per second.
So customers need not pay more than the seconds they make call. This goes in line with the NTA plan to implement per second pulse duration for the voice calls. Lets see how Ntc and Ncell come up for implementing per second voice call tariff.
