Vianet Good with Internet

Prominent ISP Vianet Communications Pvt. Ltd. has announced the continuation of its ‘Good with Internet’ initiative for another year. The popular Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program started during the COVID-19 lockdown to provide free internet to the destitute. The initiative focuses on helping out needy people to gain internet access for online education. The company has already helped 15 poor families with internet service in the second year of this campaign.

Under this initiative, people who are deprived of education due to their inability to afford an internet subscription benefit from free service from the leading ISP Vianet.

The CSR program started in response to the story of ‘Pratibha didi’. An inhabitant of Kavre, Pratibha didi arrived in Kathmandu to educate her child. But she struggled to offer her child online classes during the horrid wrought by the Covid pandemic. The story came into public view at the expense of Human’s Kathmandu. After learning, Vianet intervened to help.

The Kathmandu-based private ISP reached out to Pratibha Didi and her family. Vianet supported them with the internet service so as to make the child’s online classes possible.

Vianet Good with Internet for educational opportunities

The ISP now has turned its one specific act of kindness into a famed CSR campaign calling it Good with the Internet. The program supports families that cannot afford the internet to ensure the school-going children continued access to education. “At its core, Vianet’s Good with Internet is an attempt to help people stay connected to the internet for educational opportunities,” Vianet says.

The connectivity, as well as affordability of the internet, has become even better in recent years. More in particular, since the speed war, the quality and affordability of internet packages have improved. However, Vianet notes that “many children are deprived of quality educational opportunities they cannot afford the internet.” Therefore, the company wants to extend its support to the best of its ability.

In its second year of the Good with internet campaign, Vianet helped people like Dalli didi from Jumla, who has set up a street shop at Charapath’s junction to educate her four children. Similarly, Amala didi from Dolakha has also benefitted from the program. She sells panipuri at Kapan to educate her son and daughter. Up to 15 families received free internet service last year under Vianet’s popular CSR act.

Vianet also plans to help many such families in the coming years. Meanwhile, it has called for people to reach out to the company via their implementing partner @Human’s of Kathmandu.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
