Mobile Phone Jammers Nepal

Mobile jammers are being used in Balkhu and Tinkune today (Mangsir 07) to disconnect connections in an attempt to curtail possible escalation. The police in Kathmandu resorted to using the jamming devices which block phone signal. With this move, the authority seeks to subdue any major tension that could flare up between the two groups of protesters in conflict led by pro-monarch entrepreneur Durga Prasai and CPN (UML) leader Mahesh Basnet.

Medical entrepreneur Basnet is leading his ‘Save the Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizen’ campaign in Balkhu while CPN leader Basnet doing his own with the Youth Union in Tinkune. Both sets of protesters are just 7 kilometers apart. With the reasoning that the mobile service could be used by the protesters and could aggravate the situation, the police are tightly monitoring the situation. The police are using a cellphone jamming mounted vehicle in Balkhu and one in Tinkune in the protesters’ zone. Such a device is also used in particular situations such as in libraries to maintain a quiet environment. It’s also used for security purposes. Here’s one that might constitute a great read: Mobile phone Jammer in Singhadurbar !!

Due to the use of mobile jammers, users are struggling with phone calls around the demonstration zone. Jammer devices deny mobile services in its coverage area. The police are also using these devices to block the signal during VIP visits to Nepal.

The police in Kathmandu are using mobile jammers in a move to block communication which could be a way to avoid major conflict.

About mobile jammer

In telecommunication, a jammer is a device that blocks mobile connection by transmitting signals on the same radio frequencies. This disrupts communication between a mobile device and a base station. This interrupts phone calls, SMS, and other mobile services. However, this disruption only exists within the range of the jamming device. Usually, such devices are carried on a vehicle so that they can be mobilized in place and time of need. That’s what the police are doing in Balkhu and Tinkune in the nation’s capital today. A cellphone jammer can disrupt the signal of 2G, 3G, 4G, CDMA, WiFi, and other communication technologies.

Using jammers has its risks though. While it can be operated with legal permission, it can disallow calls in emergency situations. Besides, since jammers overpower cellular frequencies, even emergency calls from mobile phones can’t be placed. it can arguably take the form of internet censorship in certain situations.
