How to use Carrier Video Calling in Nepal

Video calls are quite an extensively used feature in this technological era. But little do most people know, you can also do video calls without using mobile data or WiFi from your smartphone. This feature is known as Carrier Video Calling or Native Video Calling. In this article, let’s know about how to use Carrier Video Calling in Nepal.

What is Carrier Video Calling?

Before heading to the main part, let’s talk briefly about what Carrier Video Calling actually is. So, it is basically a video calling service that uses a mobile network, instead of mobile data or WiFi. This native video calling is currently available in only one telco in Nepal, which is none other than Nepal Telecom. The privately owned telco, Ncell doesn’t support carrier video calling in 4G as for now. However, it did have support for 3G carrier video calling in the past. While the state-owned NTC bags the tag of being the first entity to introduce carrier video calling in 3G back a long ago and 4G in the present time.

Criteria for Carrier Video Calling

  • Carrier Video Calling works on 4G networks with VoLTE-enabled SIMs.
  • In Nepal, only NTC offers Carrier Video Calling Service for now. So, it doesn’t work on Ncell.
  • Both devices must have this service enabled and supported device.
  • Smartphones from Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, OnePlus, Nothing, and Tecno devices support this feature, currently.
  • Some old devices from the aforementioned brands might not support carrier video calling.

How to do Carrier Video Calling

If your device and carrier support it, here’s how you can do carrier video calling in Nepal.

  • First, make sure, you have VoLTE turned on on your device.
  • Then, turn on the Carrier Video Calling feature on, on your device. Some devices do not have this option but it still might work.
  • After that, you can head over to the calling app, press the contact icon, and tap on the video calling option.
  • If your device supports it, you’ll be directed directly towards native video calling. If not, you’ll be directed towards Google Meet video calling instead, which is an internet-based feature.
  • Some devices from Samsung also let you switch to video calling while being on an audio call.
  • You don’t need WiFi for mobile data connection to use Carrier Video Calling.

Will Carrier Video Calling incur more charges?

Carrier Video Calling charges depend upon the network operator. At the present time, it doesn’t incur any extra charges on NTC SIM. This means that, it will just charge the exact amount of tariff as your regular voice call. What’s even better is that, if you happen to have a voice pack, it will deduct it from the voice pack instead. So, there is peace of mind using this feature. Also, using this just costs on the dialer’s end like an audio call. There is no two-way charge levied here, whatsoever.

Does Carrier Video Calling work on iPhones?

It doesn’t work on Apple iPhones as they have native Facetime calls.

Which devices support Carrier Video Calling?

New and recent devices from Xiaomi, Poco, Redmi, Samsung, Vivo, OnePlus, Nothing, Tecno, and Oppo support this feature.

Which devices do not support it?

Devices from Honor and Realme do not support Native Video Calling services.

Which smartphones support Carrier Video Calling, VoLTE, and WiFi Calling?

Recent smartphones from Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco, Tecno, and Nothing support Carrier Video Calling, VoLTE, and WiFi Calling in Nepal.
