Apple has finally launched the much-awaited Apple MacBook Pro here in Nepal. The brand had launched the product in an Apple “Unleashed” event held on October 18th, 2021 alongside the new AirPods 3 and Apple Music Voice Plan. Apple launched Apple MacBook Pro with 14-inch and 16-inch models along with the all-new M1 Pro and M1 Max processors. Apple MacBook Pro is now available In Nepal. Starting off with the design of the new Apple MacBook Pro, Apple has revamped the design of the device notably in comparison with its predecessors. As per the brand, it now comes with about 20% thinner bezels on the sides and 60% thinner along the top as compared to its predecessors. The new MacBook Pro has been carefully designed with the environment in mind. Apple says that it is made with 100% recycled aluminum. Advanced thermal systems move 50 percent more air than the previous generation, even at lower fan speeds. The brand has ditched the Touch bar and replaced it with physical function keys and a wider Escape key. A 14-inch MacBook Pro is 15.5 mm thick and weighs 3.5 pounds. Likewise, a 16-inch MacBook Pro measures 16.8 mm thickness and weighs 4.7 pounds and 4.8 pounds respectively for M1 Pro & M1 Max.
The new Apple MacBook Pro arrives in two different screen sizes: 14-inch and 16-inch. The 14-inch Apple MacBook Pro flaunts a 14.2” diagonal Liquid Retina XDR display along with the 3024 X 1964 native resolution at 254 pixels per inch. Whereas, the 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro comes with a 16.2” diagonal Liquid Retina XDR display along with the 3456 x 2234 native resolution at 254 pixels per inch. Both feature ProMotion technology for adaptive refresh rates of up to 120Hz. The display also offers Up to 1000 nits sustained (full-screen) brightness, 1600 nits peak brightness, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, P3 wide color gamut support, and supports one billion colours, etc. Sadly, you still won’t get a Face ID on the Macbook Pro.
As for the performance of the laptop, the new MacBook Pro comes equipped with two new chipsets, the M1 Pro and M1 Max. Both of them are fabricated on the 5nm process as the M1 chip. The M1 Pro comes with up to 10 CPU cores, up to 16 GPU cores, a 16‑core Neural Engine, and dedicated encode and decode media engines that support H.264, HEVC, and ProRes codecs.
On the other hand, the M1 Max is equipped with 10 CPU cores, up to 32 GPU cores, and a 16-core Neural Engine. It is the most powerful chip ever created for a pro notebook. M1 Max delivers two times faster graphics processing and double the memory bandwidth of M1 Pro. As per Apple, the M1 Pro is up to 2x while the M1 Max is up to 4x faster than the company’s last-gen M1 chip in terms of graphics performance.
Talking about memory configuration, it comes with 16GB of RAM on the base variant and it goes up to 32GB on the M1 Pro and 64GB on the M1 Max. Storage starts at 512GB SSD on the base variant and goes up to 8TB SSD.
Coming to the software of the laptop, Apple MacBook Pro is optimized with the new macOS Monterey to maximize performance. It boasts new features such as Focus, Visual Look Up, Live Text, Quick Note, a new tab implementation on Safari, etc.
Over 10,000 apps and plug-ins are already optimized for Apple silicon. The Rosetta 2 seamlessly translates apps designed for Intel processors for use on your new MacBook Pro. Further, the users can also run iPhone and iPad apps directly on the MacBook.
Talking about the battery prowess of the device, the Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch boasts a 70 watt-hour lithium-polymer battery and the 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro has a 100 watt-hour lithium-polymer battery. The 14-inch variant lasts up to up to 17 hours of video playback whereas the 16-inch variant lasts up to 21 hours of Apple TV app movie playback. They also support a MagSafe 3 port for charging. Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch come with a 67/96W USB-C Power Adapter and a 140W USB-C Power Adapter respectively. The new MacBook Pros also support fast charging and the brand claims that it charges up to 50% battery in just 30 minutes.
Talking about the connectivity of the device, it includes 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 wireless networking, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac compatibility, Bluetooth 5.0, etc. As for ports, it has 1 x HDMI, 1 x 3.5mm headphone jack, 3x USB-C Thunderbolt 4, 1x SDXC, 1x MagSafe 3. There’s also a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio supports.
Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch starts with an Rs. 3,05,000 for the base variant and 16-inch variant starts with a price of Rs. 3,80,000 for the base variant in Nepal. Apple MacBook Pro is now available for purchase in Nepal. It is available in two different color variants Space Grey, and Silver in Nepal.
