COVID-19 helpline numbers Nepal

A week-long lockdown has started in an effort to curb the spread of the second wave of COVID-19 in Nepal. The fear of contracting the virus has gripped everyone. However, to ease off the public, the Ministry of Health (MoHP) has made helpline numbers available for the public in Kathmandu and across Nepal in case, they need support, medical assistance relating to COVID-19.

It is obvious that concerns overwhelm the family and friends once someone has caught the virus. Where should they contact for an immediate medical solution is the first and foremost priority for them. But with the increasing number of infected in the country, it is very difficult to get a bed in hospital now. Kathmandu itself poses a challenge because of its huge population.

It doesn’t become easy to avail of hospital beds, and ventilators as there are limited hospitals or care centers that would embrace COVID-19 cases. Whereas the number of infected per day has already crossed the 5000 mark which shows the dangerous situation in the country. Now even getting an ambulance for the patient has proved to be an ordeal.

Meanwhile, Health Ministry has urged citizens to call its hotline numbers in case someone needed help with Coronavirus-related issues.

It has availed its two hotline numbers 1133 and 1115 as well as one mobile contact 9851255839 for the public. The ministry informs that they are accepting calls round the clock through the helpline/hotline numbers.

Joint Spokesperson of the ministry Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari has urged people “not to worry but make a call at the contact numbers and update their situations.”

These numbers and services that come with it are for Kathmandu only.

What Comprises The “Help”?

After someone makes a call, the ministry will refer the potential COVID-19 patient to a designated health center. Only after the patient has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the next steps will be determined.

However, he has also requested the public not to be too demanding. He says asking for ventilators or ICUs without a proper diagnosis would cause inconvenience to those who need them severely.

He further added, when a COVID-19 suspect calls, the ministry officials will ask for oxygen level or their breathing difficulty level, and other symptoms. Then they will draw a list of hospitals and contact doctors for the availability of health services. They will refer the caller to the hospital where there are ICU, ventilators, and other services available.

Kathmandu has gone into a week-long lockdown starting from Thursday (which shall be prolonged for sure). Many other local administrative bodies have also imposed restrictions depending on the severity of the situation to contain the breakout of the Coronavirus.

If you have contacted any COVID-19 infected or have any symptoms, do the Coronavirus test immediately and isolate yourself. Whereas you can get more information about the coronavirus infection from the helpline numbers stated above.

As the pandemic is getting serious here in Nepal, we request you to share the information to as many people as possible, so that they can get a relief by contacting those numbers.
