Government has made a decision by its cabinet meeting (Jestha 17, 2081) to amend the ToR (Terms of reference) for the appointment of Nepal Telecom’s Managing Director (MD). The fresh amendment for the MD of Nepal Telecom is called Appointment and Service Facility related Directives 2081. The revision into the criteria comes as the company proceeds to welcome a new incumbent to lead the government enterprise.

In particular, government has revised the criteria relating to age, educational qualification, and provisions on dismissal into the “Directives on Nepal Telecom Managing Director appointment and Facility, 2078”. The cabinet meeting approved Ntc MD Criteria based on the recommendation from MoCIT. The latest amendment paves the way for Nepal Telecom to secure its next MD soon. MoCIT has

At the moment, the company is without a full-time leader. Acting MD Sangita Pahadi (Aryal) has been leading the company since Ashoj 17, 2080 following the suspension of the former MD Sunil Paudel on National Payment Gateway corruption charges. He is sentenced to 9 years in prison and a fine of over Rs 46 crore by a special court.

What could be in the new Nepal Telecom MD appointment amendment 2078?

The new amendment could have made fresh changes regarding the age limit, qualifications, and policies regarding the dismissal from the post. According to the revised law, a candidate must be at least 35 years old and not exceed 58 to be eligible for the Ntc MD post. Currently, the same age limit stands at 56 years old for eligibility in terms of the age of the candidates. That is, the company has increased the age bar by 2 years.

Likewise, as known, they could have added mechanical engineering and civil engineering as the prerequisites for educational qualifications. Currently, the guidelines mandate the candidate to have a master’s degree or equivalent in commerce, administration, economics, business, law, ICT, electronics engineering, etc. Besides, the incumbent can be dismissed from the post if necessary. The Ministry of Communication, Information, and Technology vouches that it is a necessity. Earlier, the company made the amendment to the same guidelines before appointing a new MD.

Similarly, the eligibility requires to have at least 3 years of experience in 10th level or above or its equivalent.

These amendment points above are only based on the reports so far. So, we want you to take it a little caution. However, we will soon update the information as soon as it unveils.

Process to begin soon!!

MoCIT will soon start formal proceedings to appoint Ntc’s new MD starting with a vacancy. It has become a trend that the amendments are done when a new MD appointment process starts. Based on the amendments to the Nepal Telecom MD appointment directive, the company to start its search for a new incumbent formally. Being one of the country’s profiting government enterprises, it can’t remain without a full-time leader for long. Especially as the company reels from dwindling financial returns and several other challenges, it wants to sort out administrative aspects for smoother commercial operations.
