Well, it’s highly subjective to pick one among so many popular options, but the latest Xiaomi budget-killer seems to tick all the boxes. I have been using it for over six months and here’s my honest review about why I feel that it’s the best device there is at a price under Rs 50,000 in 2024.
Before that, let’s start with some groundwork. With the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G phone, Xiaomi has switched its budget phone game to the next level. It’s the priciest device ever in the Redmi Note series but that shouldn’t discourage you either as the Chinese OEM has filled it with some eye-popping features to justify its price tag such as a 1.5k resolution, aluminum frames, curved display, IP68 ingress protection, etc.
Now cutting to the chase, the best midrange smartphone in Nepal- Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G!!
Display

Let’s start with the visual aesthetics. Redmi Note is the first Note series phone to feature a 6.67-inch curved display. It means you get slightly more screen space on the edges of the device while it’s seemingly more appealing. I know it’s subject but it feels just so unique and futuristic. Additionally, the curvy display makes the device more intuitive. With 1800 nits, everything on the screen is viewable even in outdoor conditions.
What is also attractive is that the phone features a 1.5k resolution display. For the unaware, it means, the device’s screen packs more pixels on its screen those the regular Full HD device with 1080 x 1920 pixels. This ensures that everything I see on the phone is sharper, richer, and just cool.
On top of it, it’s got a 120 HZ CystalRes AMOLED screen which makes scrolling the screen smooth while the display is bright and radiant. Unquestionably, these features make the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G veritably the smartphone to beat in the budget segment. Tell you what, its dual-tone design makes it such a class apart that every time I draw it out of the pocket, I feel a refreshing experience. You get that on only a handful of devices and mostly in the premium ones.
Now, I want to talk about one exceptional reason that I feel that this device is top-notch in its price range. But it’s very much about how I feel so, yes, I am slightly preoccupied here.
Battery

Honestly speaking, for someone like me who’s on the phone as long as I am not asleep, the battery is the most important factor. So, with this device, I always feel a great relief whether I am at work or out on a trip. The Li-Po 5000 mAh battery lets me roam around with enough juice even after moderate to heavy use for five to six hours.

But while the 5,000mAh battery has a decent battery capacity, what made the deal for me is the phone’s 120W fast charging capacity. Being a Redmi Note phones fan, I also own a Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5G device and its 67W battery fully charges within 40 minutes from zero. But hey, this beastly Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G goes from zero to one hundred percent in around 20 minutes. For me, it’s the biggest convenience and benefit of using this super “budget-flagship” phone.
For many, the battery may not be the first thing to see in a smartphone, but when most features are mostly standard, this one is a distinct one that makes the trade for heavy smartphone users. Especially for those who the phone not just for browsing and calling but for work too, its battery capabilities make it a highly commendable device as it’s been in my case.
To sum up, I am literally gaga over the device’s battery capacities because that’s how much it matters to me. And here’s about its performance chops.

I am not into heavy gaming. However, knowing that I have a device that handles pretty much graphics-heavy games smoothly is a peaceful feeling.
The Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200, a powerful 4nm build system on a chip built on a 4nm process node. It has eight cores consisting of two 2.8 GHz cores and six 2.0 GHz cores for high performance and regular operations delivering a buttery smooth device performance.
Specifically, I can play action-packed PUBG at 60 frames per second (fps) and COD at 90 fps with consistent performance. There are no issues of lags and glitches with eFootball 2024 (PES), or FreeFire too in the same settings.
This processor is not actually a flagship silicon though and neither the device is one of the best flagship phones in Nepal. It’s a midrange yet amply powerful processor that perfectly fits a top-end budget phone.
The processor is not just about gaming though. It’s equally good enough to handle basic multi-tasking with faster shutter response, snappy app launches, etc. Additionally, the chipset is optimized to provide me a good battery life for almost two days on moderate usage some browsing, voice, and some music.

Camera performance

To be honest, I am not a photogenic. So, I keep it short and relevant in photography with my budget delight here. The rear main camera is a huge 200 MP camera that clicks super sharp high-resolution photos. It’s accompanied by an 8 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro camera.
The phone’s main lead has OIS support which helps to get stable images during movements. I don’t expect to get high-quality OIS-backed videos in this price range so the steady mode does offer me good value. Likewise, I can also record 4K videos at @24/30fps.
What’s impressive is that the color production is fairly good. What’s also impressive about the phone’s camera is that I can use the 1x, 2x, and 4x feature which I can use to get zoomed-in images in good detail with the right colors without a telephoto lens.
The front camera is commendable too. Specs-wise, a 16 MP selfie-shooter is not huge but photos are good enough overall. I get balanced colors, and all look natural. What I notice is that night photography has improved too with good contrast levels. So, when it’s about to turn dusk, I just turn the night mode to get “better” cameras.
And being quite frank, I don’t expect iPhone 15 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra-level photos. So, with its versatile camera setup backed by HDR, OIS, and AI features, I am happy with its productivity.
It’s got an IP68 rating
If you know how to read smartphone specs, you may have come across ingress protection certifications. The Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G is arguably the first phone in its price range to get the IP68 rating which has been the feature of those in the top-end segment. And let’s not forget the use of aluminum for frames which is another solid feature of the phone.
It means, you may have the phone dipped up to 1.5 meters deep in water for about 30 minutes, the device will still resist water from getting inside. This feature is vital for me as it keeps my phone from being unaffected by heavy rains. I keep my phone in my pocket not in some water-resistant bag and the premium-grade water and dust protection gives me relief.
The phone is also designed to recognize water movement on the screen so it avoids accidental triggers from water contact. I don’t want to accidentally send a message or call someone without wanting to. This tech prevents that even when the screen gets wet.
Let’s not forget the protection layer and WiFi 6
Additionally, the device’s glass body is protected by the next-generation Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and aluminum frames. I am someone who refrains from using any case and lets my phone express its beautiful design at its maximum. Having extra and advanced layers of protection somehow helps me continue with my rather unpopular practice.
The phone also gets support for the 5G network so, I will be able to get fast cellular data speed when the network becomes available in Nepal. Likewise, it’s got WiFi 6 support for wireless internet which ensures high-speed and low latency browsing. I don’t yet have a WiFi 6 router but anyway, there are more internet service providers offering WiFi 6 services in Nepal so, that’s another top reason I call the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G the best midrange smartphone in Nepal.

Pros: In its favor, the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G features an awe-inspiring curved display, powerful camera, chipset, and IP68 protection among other exciting features. So, it’s not just a great device in itself, but a value for money in its price.
Objectively speaking, Xiaomi has done a lot to elevate its midrange smartphone game and incorporated many hot features to bring it in still aggressive pricing. Therefore, for me, the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G is not just the best smartphone at a midrange price in Nepal, but one mighty product in its own right. I got all these remarkable features and user experience at the cost of Rs 52,999 for my 12/512 GB (when I bought the device). But now you can get it at Rs 50,999 and the basic variant costs Rs 45,999.
What would have made it better?
Despite all the positive efforts, I wish some other things could have made it an entirely different beast. The better video quality and optical zooming capacity would have done further wonders for it. But we are speaking of more while there’s already much of it on it!
