One of the most popular social media platforms in Nepal, Viber, a company owned by Rakuten has rolled out Viber Lenses through a partnership with Snapchat.
The inclusion of this magic augmented reality (AR) will surely elevate the messaging experience of every Nepalese. Viber Lenses uses Snapchat’s developer tools that include Camera Kit, Creative Kit as well as Bitmoji. Thus, it will enable direct sharing to Snapchat and introduce customizable Bitmoji Avatars to the Viber platform.
CEO of Rakuten Viber, Djamel Agaoua said, “Through this partnership, we want to empower the creativity of our users with AR. We are also looking forward to inspiring new fun-filled ways for people to keep in touch with their friends and family members.”

Product Development VP Nadav Melnick followed up by saying, “We are always very serious about the user’s personal privacy. So, we don’t collect any personal data thereby creating a safer messaging experience for all.”

Currently, the initial launch only hosts 30 new Viber Lenses. This includes AR Lenses like Animal masks, Viber Characters, Underwater Lens as well as many more. However, the company plans to add around 50 to 70 additional lenses every month. Therefore, the total number of Viber Lenses by the end of 2021 will be at least 300 or more.
Yet, the best part is, Viber plans to integrate ‘Nepali-themed Local Lenses’. This will be suitable for the local market as it will be based upon the local environment, customs, traditions, and culture.
Viber Lenses isn’t limited to here. Big shots like FC Barcelona, World Wildlife Fund as well as World Health Organization are all partnering with Viber to offer new lenses.
