Viber Brings Storage Management Feature, for Better App Use

Viber storage mangement feature

Rakuten Viber, the leading messaging and voice-based service have introduced a new storage management feature for the app. The innovative features let users take control of the storage the app consumes and free up space whenever required. The feature is ideal for users who use Viber on devices with low storage.

The better storage management feature makes Viber work more efficiently on low-storage smartphones. Media quality has greatly increased in today’s times. Images take up more storage, and due to high-res videos, AR lenses, and other interactive communication, the app ends up consuming more out of a phone’s space. As a result, the app and the device both suffer in performance ability. As per Statcounter, there are still 40% of Android users with Android version 11.0 or lower version devices which basically means they are affected by the lower storage smartphones.

Viber storage management feature efficiently handles media storage

The storage management function on Viber allows users to clean the cache from the Viber app. Additionally, users can also choose which chat space to clear. Users can also check how much space Viber has taken, how much storage is available, how much each chat consumes, and how much free space is left.

The feature makes it possible to delete unnecessary files per chat which removes media from chats. These contents include images, videos, documents, or other files. The cool thing is that even after deleting the files, they will stay unaffected by other participants in the chats.

If you want to keep the files on your device but want them removed from Viber, you can download the earlier ones before deleting them.

Use Viber to the maximum without needing expensive devices

“We are excited to announce our new storage management feature that will allow the Viber app to be even more accessible worldwide,” said Ofir Eyal, CEO of Rakuten Viber. “We want all our users to be able to send as many messages as they want to family and friends without needing to have the latest high-tech devices,” he added.

Viber expects the feature to be a “game changer for users” and provide a great experience in freeing up space on their devices.

The feature is available on both major smartphone platforms. iOS users will get it on their Viber app from version 19.3.0 and for Android, users of version starting from 19.4 will get the feature.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
