NEA launches methods for electricity bill payment online

Nepal Electricity Authority, the sole provider and regulator of electricity supply in Nepal, has launched methods to pay the electricity bills online. Minister for Energy, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi along with MD of NEA, have jointly inaugurated the online procedure in a program in the capital on Monday. The online payment system was first launched from NEA Lagankhel office today. With these methods, it will be very easy for the people to pay the electricity bills (Bijuli bill). They don’t need to queue in lines nor need to visit the NEA counters for the online electricity bill payment.

The online electricity bill payment from eSewa and some banks was already there for Kathmandu. Now, they have added more procedure including new banks and online payment service provider. As there are new digital payment license, the online bill payment of electricity launches in a large scale. At first, the online electricity bill payment is available for trial in Kathmandu, then it will be gradually made available in all parts of the country.

Methods for electricity bill payment online.

There will be several methods to pay the electricity bills online. Among them, the easiest will be for the ones having the bank account of those banks which have got the permission from NEA. They can use m banking or SMS banking or online banking to pay the electricity bills online from their bank account.

You can also pay the bills from the firms, holding online payment license. The six firms who have already got the license for online bill payment of electricity are: eSewa, Prabhu Bank, Mahalaxmi Development bank, CFS Remit, City Express. The online bill payment service will be provided free of charge. There will be kiosk, POS device and mobile app for the bill payment.

Soon, more banking and payment companies will get the license and launch the service in collaboration with NEA. Himalayan Bank, Nepal Investment Bank and Nepal Clearing House will also get the license for the payment. Among all of the license holders, eSewa has the largest coverage. We have already posted the complete process to pay the electricity bills (bijuli bill) online in Nepal.

People in rural areas have to go to NEA counters in Headquarter to pay the bills. The online method will be more easy for the people in rural areas, as they had to spend Rs 400 transportation cost to pay Rs 80 bill. Now they only have to go to nearest money transfer or payment merchants to pay the bill. Using the online methods, people abroad can also pay the bills from there.

NEA to launch smart meters and payment from Ntc recharge card soon

NEA is also known to come up with Smart metering solution that will help them get rid of manual meter reading and implement fast online payment. We have also posted some report about the smart meters here. Apart from Smart meters, NEA will also launch the method to pay the electricity bills from Nepal Telecom recharge card. There may be probability of launching similar recharge card by NEA.

Minister and NEA Chief highlighted the importance of smart metering and such online bill payment for the convenience of People, to get easy service.
