Have you ever felt irritated with the “Maaf Garnu Hola” announcement in NTC and Ncell while dialing a number!!! Well yes most of us have felt that way and it’s not only us but they themselves also relate to it. The words and sounds of the announcement are familiar to most of us and we are also curious to know who are the people behind those words. People also know them as “Telecom ko didi”.

We get several announcements when the phone is busy, unreachable or switched off or have a low balance. Mostly the announcements are for the unsuccessful calls due to several other reasons.

BBC Nepali has unveiled those people who are behind those voices. Let’s get to know about them.

Anupama Karmacharya

While dialing a call in Nepal Telecom (NTC) to another number, you get an announcement when the other phone is busy. That time, you get the announcement “Tapai le Dial garnu bhaeko number aile byasta cha. Kehi samaye pachi puna dial garnu hola”. In English, the announcement is “The subscriber is busy. Please try again later”.

Above announcement voice in Nepal Telecom belongs to Mrs. Anupama Karmacharya. When she came to know that Nepal Telecom was looking for artists for the announcement message, She sent her recorded voice and then got selected. She had also given her voices to several other advertisements. She is currently working in Nepal Electricity Authority.

Bhumika Thapa

Similarly, Nepal Telecom also has other announcement messages from Mrs. Bhumika Thapa. The announcement message is for unreachable calls like “Maaf garnu hola tapai le samparka garnu bhaeko number aile upalabdha huna sakena, kripaya kei samaye pachi puna prayas garnu hola”. In English, the announcement is “The number you have dialed is not reachable. Please try after a while”. She used to be a presenter on radio and Television.

Subani Moktan

Another telecom operator Ncell also had similar announcements for the unsuccessful calls and more. “Sorry, the number you have dialed is busy. Please try again later”. This announcement is from Singer Subani Moktan. Sometimes Subani herself felt irritated with the announcement because it keeps on coming unless it’s successful. Source: BBC
