Nepal Telecom to launch 4G in 26 cities from Oct 2

Nepal Telecom, the government-owned telecom operator is set to launch 4G in 26 more cities from Wednesday (Oct 2, 2019). Earlier they were preparing to make the launch a success in those areas before Dashain.

After making its network ready for the 4G network, Nepal Telecom had been testing their 4G network in those areas. Normally telecom operators test their new network for all the possible scenarios so as to assure of the quality before reaching to customers.

This comes at a time when private telecom operator Ncell is marketing their widest 4G coverage in Nepal.  For 2 years, Nepal telecom had the 4G network running in two cities, Kathmandu and Pokhara. Now they will cover 26 more cities with 4G network. As per some sources, they are adding 12 towers each day to meet the Dashain target. They also tell the total number of 4G sites, for now, is around 110, which will increase rapidly, as per them.

NTC claims they are working with full effort to complete the 4G expansion project within Feb 2020, which is the one-year deadline to finish all the works.

How to check if your SIM supports 4G?

Nepal Telecom had been providing this special feature to check if your current SIM supports 4G or not. For this, you need to dial *444# and you will get a reply whether you can activate 4G in your SIM. If it tells your SIM does not support, you need to visit Ntc office to get a new 4G compatible SIM card. With the Ntc Dashain offer 2076, Ntc has made the 4G SIM upgrade available free of cost. Upon activation of the 4G for the first time, customers will also get a bonus data of 200 MB to be used within 2 days. Ntc even calls this 4G activation pack as a gift to all their customers for the Dashain festival.

What can we expect with Ntc 4G?

As per the test revelation, the peak data speed of Ntc 4G comes above 200 Mbps, which is possible with all of their highly advanced technologies. Although the figure seems quite exciting, an average speed of 10 to 15 Mbps shall fulfill all your smartphone browsing, streaming needs. We will have some speed test once the 4G network is made available.

Similarly, Ntc 4G will also provide high-quality voice calls through a technology called VoLTE. This technology will revolutionize the quality enhancement for a voice call here in Nepal, with the introduction of HD call.

Ntc 4G launch event

Ntc is known to launch the 4G in those cities with a big event on Wednesday (Oct 2, 2019). They will announce the 4G network available in more cities in presence of Prime Minister himself here in Kathmandu. Similarly, Chief minister of each province will be present in all the provinces, in separate programs.

Currently, Ntc serves 8 lakhs 4G subscribers in Kathmandu and Pokhara only, which will surge significantly after the launch. Nepal Telecom has invested around 18 billion NPR for the 4G expansion project all over Nepal.
