Huawei Awarded With The National ICT Award 2021

Huawei Nepal wins the National ICT Award 2021 for the Private sector. The National ICT Award 2021, one of Nepal’s prestigious awards in the ICT sector, was organized on National ICT day (May 2, 2021), at Singha Durbar. The award ceremony was conducted in presence of a limited number of people maintaining all the necessary safety protocols.

Honorable Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli graced the event virtually. Huawei Nepal received the National ICT Award 2021 for Private Sector from the Honorable Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT), Mr. Parbat Gurung. 

The CEO of Huawei Nepal, Mr. William Zhang, accepted the award on behalf of the whole Huawei Nepal team. The award ceremony aired live on Nepal Television and Facebook page.

Huawei’s contribution to Nepal’s ICT industry

The contribution of Huawei to Nepal’s ICT industry has been continuing for almost 21 years. Huawei collaborated with various Nepalese telecom operators to bring 2G/3G/4G technology to Nepal. As a result, connectivity has improved across the country. 

Apart from ICT technology, Huawei has been involving in different sectors from government to financial institutions, Internet Service Provider, airlines, media, etc. Similarly, Huawei is determined to improve its digital foundation in Nepal. Huawei has apparently developed 10,000+ ICT talents directly and indirectly within these 21 years.  

National ICT Award 2021 with safety protocols 

This year’s National ICT Award was held by following safety measures amid the restrictions imposed by Nepal Government. Though Parbat Gurung, Minister of MoCIT, Hari Bashyal, Secretary of MoCIT, representatives of various organizations, and some special guests attended the event physically, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli joined the award ceremony with a virtual presence. 

PM KP Oli launched Nagarik App 

During the event, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli took the platform to officially launch the full version of the Nagarik App. It is a mobile application that provides the public with government-related services on a single platform. He also opened an account in Nepal Bank and Siddhartha Bank.

He said, “This is the evidence that you are moving fast in the context of the vision of Digital Nepal or the realization of that destination. Making great use of the opportunities provided by the extensive use, continuous development, expansion, and mobility of information and communication technology to help achieve the long-term goal of a prosperous Nepal, a happy Nepali, I request all organizations, bodies, private sector, service providers, and other stakeholders of ICT for coordinated cooperation and partnership.” 

PM Oli also congratulated the winners of the event, including Huawei, and encouraged them to work even harder in the future. 

Minister Parbat Gurung said, “We have entered a new era of ICT, and we are working to provide internet and other ICT services to all Nepalese.” He also informed that the 4G coverage is available in 77 districts, and the 5G testing/trial has also started. 

Likewise, Minister Gurung congratulated Huawei Nepal and other winners of the ICT award. He further thanked them for their continuous contribution to the ICT sector. 

MoCIT Secretary, Hari Bashyal, on the other hand, said that Digital Nepal Framework, an important transforming infrastructure, helps the government to develop the ICT sector. Similarly, he informed that the work to grow the capacity of data centers in Singha Durbar is in progress. Also, the construction of data centers in Khumaltar and Banke is underway. 

Winners of National ICT Award 2021 

It is the 4th National ICT Award event in Nepal, which acknowledges the best ones in the ICT sector with various awards. The overall winners of the event are as follows: 

  • National ICT Excellence Award 2021 – Mr. Sudhir Parajuli (President Subisu Cablenet, ISPAN) 
  • National ICT Excellence Award 2021 (Woman) – Ms. Kusum Lama (Vice President, Prabhu Group) 
  • National ICT Award 2021 (Private Sector) – Huawei Nepal 
  • National ICT Award 2021 (Public Sector) – Office of the Auditor General

We heartily congratulate Huawei Nepal for achieving National ICT Award 2021 (private sector). This is yet another milestone in their glorious journey in the ICT industry. Their innovative and excellent service in the Nepalese ICT sector is worth the appreciation. Hope they continue to improve the digital profile of Nepal.
