Smart Cell

You can purchase your next Smart Cell SIM Card without any document. The operator has partnered with Thegana Services which will authenticate customers online and help them obtain s SIM cards without physical papers.

Smart Cell and Thegana Services reached their agreement on February 20. Amiy Saxena, chief of the customer service and experience department of Smart Cell, and Bishal KC, the Chief, and CEO of Thegana signed the agreement papers.

Their collaboration will help mobile subscribers get a Smart SIM card without a document. They will only have to scan a QR code and their identity will be verified.

The service comes on the back of NTA’s own efforts to eliminate the requirement of documents to buy a SIM card.

How Does it Work?

It is a smart way to receive a SIM card. Traditionally, you have to produce a copy of your citizenship and passport size photos for documentation. The problem with it is the inconvenience that comes with it. We do not always have those with us when we need them. And that may incur time and extra spending.

But Thegana will do the trick. The company that provides complex digital addresses will provide its system to Smart. The system contains a database of the people. When they want a Smart SIM card, its app will identify those users and help Smart record their details.

That means those new to Thegana, must submit their details to the app necessary for SIM card purchase. Whenever they visit an authorized Smart Cell outlet for a new SIM, you will have to scan a QR code from Thegana. The system will recognize your detail and you will get your Smart SIM card without physical papers.

Thegana app records user detail and helps register KYC through QR scan which is the first of its kind service in Nepal. This is convenient to the users as it saves both time and money.

The company says its digital solution will soon integrate with other operators’ and banks’ services. It also maintains that user details in it are secure and safe from beyond the said services.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
