Nepal’s leading payment service provider (PSP) eSewa digital wallet has been downloaded a record 10 million (1 crore) times on the Google Play Store. The feat makes the fintech giant the first of the digital wallets in Nepal to join the prestigious “10 million download club”.

eSewa is one of the most popular apps in Nepal and the latest feat only solidifies its strong presence and relevance among Nepalese smartphone users. It’s the first digital wallet to hit the 10 million downloads in the country leaving behind other popular ones such as Khalti, IME Pay, etc. The company is celebrating the milestone as “Khusika 1 Karod Palharu.”

With the vision of a cashless economy, eSewa beta came to the fore in 2009 AD. Then, it started services on January 25, 2010 AD. Since then, the company has made an overreaching contribution to Nepal’s digital payment landscape as well as the digital economy.

Expressing his enthusiasm at the 10 million eSewa downloads record, Mr. Jagdish Khadka, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, extended his gratitude to all the users, customers, agents, and merchants who have downloaded and loved eSewa. “This journey of eSewa is not stopping here. We are confident that in the future, with new technologies and innovations, we make it more suitable for new users and will increase downloads even further.”

It goes without saying that the company has elevated the idea of financial transactions from affluent to low-economy areas through digital means. As a company, eSewa came into being in 2009 AD. In 16 years, the company has extended its coverage to the entire 77 districts and has over 10 million registered users. Check out: eSewa, Khalti sets daily limit and service charge on transaction

Also, the digital wallet boasts a strong network of over 250,000 agents, 49 banks 45 microfinances, and 350,000 merchants.
