Nepal Telecom (NTC) has been distributing the FTTH line with internet and voice service in different parts of the country. At first, high-speed internet speed was available in Kathmandu and then they expanded it to more cities and then districts. Now the Ntc Fiber internet service also called FTTH is available in 74 districts of the country with the latest district being East Rukum.
Ntc’s FTTH service has now started in East Rukum’s Headquarters Rukumkot, after Minister of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT) Rekha sharma inaugurated the service virtually. Similarly, the service for Rukum west was also launched even though the service was already available in Chaurjahari and Aathbiskot. Minister Sharma says, “With this expansion, I feel proud to announce that Nepal Telecom’s fiber service has reached 74 districts of the country and would like to request Nepal Telecom to expand the service to remaining three districts soon”.
She also expressed for the need to expand the fiber service from the district level reach to municipality and ward level. Likewise, she informed that in order to prioritize the use of information technology, a model service delivery campaign has already in 19 districts including the earthquake stricken Jajarkot and Rukum West.
For Rukum East, Nepal Telecom has now installed two FDC (Fiber Distribution Cabinet) in Rukumkot and a total of 1024 lines can be distributed in that area. The company plans to migrate 200 of its existing customers to the fiber line first and then add new customers.
FTTH stands for Fiber to the home, which is an access technology to provide high speed, reliable, and quality internet service to your fixed locations through the use of optical fiber.
Ntc FTTH Fiber Internet Availability
With the latest expansion, Ntc Fiber internet is now available in 74 districts with East Rukum being the latest one. So, Nepal Telecom’s fiber has reached all the districts except for 3 remote mountainous districts namely Dolpa, Mugu, and Humla. As per Minister Sharma, Nepal Telecom is working to extend its fiber service to two more districts: Mugu and Dolpa in this fiscal year.
Ntc FTTH customers can now use triple play service through the Fiber FTTH line, with 3 services namely high-speed internet, telephone, and NT TV (IPTV) which the company brands as Triple Play. Making it available to such a huge no of districts, benefits the customers to choose Ntc fiber internet for their internet + services. Remember, you can only get home telephone service from Nepal Telecom and now it is based on FTTH technology.
Compared to the traditional copper-based line, FTTH provides better quality voice and internet services due to the use of optical fiber and IP-based technology. Optical fiber is a transmission medium in the FTTH fiber internet service, which has low signal degradation along its length and high bandwidth that is not possible with copper or coaxial cables.
Besides modernizing and expanding its services, the company has also made customer services a top priority. After ADSL conversion to Fiber, broadband service has improved in leaps and bounds and so has the customer response hence few complaints regarding the service quality. As of the latest NTA data, Nepal Telecom currently has 2 lakh, 60 thousand, 2 hundred, and 89 fiber internet users.
Nepal Telecom fiber internet speed ranges from 50 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 150 Mbps to 500 Mbps, 1Gbps. The highest speed of the NT fiber service is based on XG-PON technology.
