Private telco Ncell has been honored by Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) as the highest taxpayer under the institutional taxpayer category in FY 2080/81. To mark this milestone, the local government paid its recognition to the leading operator at an event in Kathmandu on Tuesday (December 17, 2024) which was organized to mark the city’s 106th anniversary of establishment.

The company received a certificate of honor jointly by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and LMC Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan. Ncell’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO and MD) Jabbor Kayumov received the accolade on the company’s behalf. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the Mayor of LMC, Chiribabu Maharjan, jointly presented a certificate of honor to Ncell’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Jabbor Kayumov, at a special ceremony organized to mark the 106th anniversary of LMC’s establishment.

Besides being a key vehicle for driving up Nepal’s connectivity, Ncell also contributes significantly as an important taxpaying entity. Like the state-backed Nepal Telecom (Ntc), it’s also instrumental in taxpaying contributions.

On the occasion, LMC stated that it honored the telco for its substantial tax contributions to the state. The local government has received vital support from these taxes for its development projects.

Lalitpur Metropolitan government recognizes Ncell as the highest taxpayer

Ncell CEO and MD Jabbor Kayumov expressed his delight at the company receiving the accolade. He stressed the company’s commitment to playing a positive role in generating revenues for the country.

“We are grateful to Lalitpur Metropolitan City for recognizing our contributions and honoring us. As one of the major taxpayers, we make substantial tax contributions to the government every year under various tax and fee categories. We are proud to have played a crucial role in the country’s economic growth and development, contributing directly and indirectly,” Kayumov shared.

As mentioned above, Ncell has long been a vital tax contributor in Nepal since its inception. On several occasions, the company received recognition from the government as the highest taxpaying entity.

In fact, since its advent, Ncell contributed over Rs 300 billion in taxes and other fees as of 2023/24. In 2022/23 alone, the company paid Rs 20.30 billion in taxes. Besides taxes, Ncell has also spent over Rs 2 billion in various social and community projects benefitting over 13 million. Likewise, the Ncell Foundation is now making further CSR efforts to uplift communities such as this one – Ncell’s 19 for 19 community projects.

LMC’s appreciation for Ncell as the highest taxpayer only further reflects the company’s deeper role it plays besides telecommunication. It continues to be one of the largest companies in Nepal a vital player in Nepal’s digital transformation and a key revenue generator.
