Bharti Airtel
Summary✨
  • Airtel experienced a widespread network outage on August 18, 2025, affecting major Indian cities.
  • The outage impacted voice calls and mobile data services, beginning around 3:30 PM IST.
  • Airtel confirmed the issue on X and reported that service restoration efforts were underway.

Airtel has confirmed its network outage in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and other regions across India on Monday, August 18, 2025. In the aftermath, users have been unable to place calls and use mobile data services. But the company has started work to restore the service.

The telco took to X to confirm that its network was down in multiple areas across the country. “We are currently experiencing a network outage. Our team is actively working to resolve the issue and restore services promptly. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. Thanks, Team Airtel,” the post read on Airtel Cares’ X handle.

The widespread outage began at 3:30 PM Indian time. The disruption peaked after about an hour and was felt in more areas.

Airtel network down but restoration has begun

Though the network suffered disruptions, Airtel is already at it to restore the network. Some areas have already seen the network back to function.

“Our customers from Delhi-NCR have been experiencing some voice calling issues for the past hour or so. A significant part of the issue has already been resolved, and our engineers are at work to resolve this fully. We deeply regret any inconvenience,” the company added later.

Following the wide mobile network outage, Airtel users have expressed their dissatisfaction on social media over the network outage during working hours. Some users said that following the Airtel network outage, they couldn’t place calls or use mobile internet. Some said that they saw data deduction on 4G despite being connected to a 5G network. Airtel is India’s second-largest telecom operator with 500 million customers across India. It has over 1.9 crore subscribers in Delhi alone.

Airtel network is expected to be restored in the next few hours.

But the scenario only highlights how dependent we have become on using digital services for work and connectivity. It’s almost unimaginable to go without using a mobile service in a day.

Mobile network outage has become common in Nepal in recent days but it’s not unique to Nepal only. Giant operators in the most developed countries have also experienced such outages which proves it is inevitable. That even affects millions of users at once due to various reasons. But operators need to be vigilant for such outages by using proper techniques like AI algorithms to forecast, monitor and resolve at the earliest with ideal solution.
