Nepal Telecom (NTC) has sped up the expansion of 4G and fiber internet services in Karnali province. According to Ntc Karnali Provincial Directorate, Surkhet Director Dr. Kamal Lamichhane, new cell towers have been installed in Bulbule, airport and stadium area. Likewise, new tower installations have been completed in Jumla road, the province hospital, and the Lekhpharsa area.
Mr. Lamichhane said that so far, the company has started communication services in 37 local levels in Karnali province. “We have started work with the aim of strengthening the network in rural areas and providing communication services to remote settlements,” he said. “Service survey work is also underway in up to 50 more local bodies.
Once the Kohalpur-Surkhet 132 kV electricity transmission line connects to Surkhet, it will become easier to expand the fiber network service. He said that preparations are underway to extend the fiber network service to the Chingad Rural Municipality of Surkhet as well.

Nepal Telecom accelerates 4G and fiber in Karnali province
He said that the company is working with priority to expand communication services. So far, fiber net service expansion is ongoing in Dailekh, Kalikot, and Sinja of Jumla. These are some of the remotest regions in Nepal. Expansion of communication services will help bridge the digital gap and enable people to connect with the rest of Nepal.
As part of the central plan, Ntc has brought into operation 10 base stations in Upper Dolpa, Rukum Pashchim, Jajarkot, and Surkhet Lekhpharsa, etc. The state-run company is giving priority to expanding 4G and fiber internet services across the region. He said that if the solar system and electrification are strong, communication service expansion will be more feasible. Stating that advance payment has been provided to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for 30 sites across the province for electrification, he said that the market areas of 16 local levels of remote settlements have been reached, and work is being done as per the concept of Digital Karnali Conclave.
Mr. Lamichhane said that work is underway in Mudkechula of the Dolpa district with BTS. He added that if work doesn’t continue with BTS, then the service will be operated from Ring Net, and 4G service will be expanded to the areas around Surkhet. The Nepal Telecom Provincial Directorate, Surkhet, has stated that it has set the target of starting 4G in Hilsa of Humla in 2082.
NTC closes in on blanket communication service coverage
Ntc is likely to complete the expansion of its 4G network across all 753 local levels in 2082. Already, NT Fiber, the company’s FTTH fiber internet service, has reached 77 districts. Therefore, reaching all of Nepal will be a significant milestone for Ntc 4G coverage.
Being a state telecom company, it’s also taking responsibility for extending reach in remote and rural areas. Karnali marks a frontier for the company in its drive to connect with modern services.
