The 2G moile service enables locals and tourists to place calls on their mobile phones and stay connected.
The company shared that it switched on 2G voice service in Na Gaun with a new mobile tower operated using V-SAT technology. The service went live on Ashwin 28, 2082.

According to Ntc, the 2G mobile service covers Beding-Na, Na Gaun, Tsho-Rolpa, Dudh Kunda, Yalung Base Camp, Tashi Lapcha Pass Base Camp, and other nearby areas. The company expects that the service will be beneficial for regular connectivity as well as rescue operations. Na Gaun lies at an altitude of 4,190 meters above sea level.
Nepal Telecom’s expansion of telecommunications services continues to reach new milestones. The company has prioritized service expansion in remote and rural regions. The current communication minister Jagdish Kharel has also been actively coordinating in improving and expanding Ntc services in the hinterlands. Ntc is active in extending service in Karnali. Likewise, Ntc 4G is now available in Tilicho Base Camp too. Likewise, the company launched 4G service in Talkot, Bajhang. The latest expansion of 2G voice in Na Gau in the Tsho-Rolpa route further strengthens Ntc’s commitment and presence across Nepal.
And speaking of which, despite being 2G, it only shows the relevance of this legacy network. When 4G is difficult to launch, the state-run company still ensures 2G service via the VSAT link. The company is likely to upgrade the service to 4G in the near future. And despite Ntc shutting down 2G in 1800MHz, 2G continues to be important for basic connectivity in remote Nepal.
