Nepal Telecom has launched 4G network in Ghunsa of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-6, of Taplejung district, at the lap of Mount Kangchenjunga. Standing at an elevation of 3,850 meters, the area is now connected by NTC’s fast and reliable 4G network, which helps the locals, the tourists, and the local digital economy with connectivity.
Prior to this, the company was operating a 2G service via VSAT technology. That is why it is the first time that this remote region in the northeast of Nepal has got an access to an advanced mobile broadband technology.
Kangchenjunga is Nepal’s second-highest mountain peak and the world’s third-highest mountain peak. The connectivity at the base area carries great significance. Users can utilize NTC VoLTE for HD calls, while normal calls are also possible. At the same time, high-speed data will help users connect, allowing tourists and locals to connect and share on the internet.

4G launched in Ghunsa of Taplejung by Nepal Telecom
NT says that the 4G service in Ghunsa will help expand communication access in Ghunsa, Khambachen, Lonak, and other surrounding areas along the Kanchenjunga Trek.
Similarly, 2G and 4G services have been launched in Tripurasundari Municipality- 6 Laha and Thulibheri Municipality- 1 Dunai, located at an altitude of 3,900 meters, in the Dolpa district.
NT is aiming to reach a full 4G coverage in 2083. The government-backed telco takes it as a responsibility to expand telecommunications services in remote regions. Going forward, the company is also looking for a possible launch of 5G network in Nepal.
