Communication Minister Dr. Bikram Timilsina said that the government is prepared to expand and improve telecommunications services across the country, with 4G coverage to nearly 1,600 additional locations in FY 2083/84. Nepal Telecom to bring 200 towers into operation, 4G in 1600 locations
Nepal Telecom is currently assessing the details to set up 200 new mobile towers. It will bring NT 4G coverage to about 1600 locations. The new towers will improve network consistency, reliability, and performance.
For the same project, the government-backed telco is preparing to publish a tender for the equipment to expand 4G.
To ensure connectivity during power outages, the government is working on improving power backup facilities at NT sites.
Minister Timilsina says that battery backup systems have already been replaced at more than 600 locations over the past three months. With the new backup system, cellular services can operate for 8 to 10 hours in rural areas and between 4 and 6 hours in urban areas, avoiding network outages during electricity disruptions.
