Ncell Rebuilds Lainchaur Ground With Multiple Facilities

Private telecom operator Ncell has completed the reconstruction of the iconic Lainchaur Ground that lies in the heart of Kathmandu. Rebuilt as part of its CSR project, the telco has handed over the facility to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Ward 26. This ground is now available to the general public for their sports and recreation.

The handover of the multi-purpose Lainchaur ground took place in KMC, Ward 26 amidst a joyous function. Celebrating the occasion, the organizers arranged to host a football match between the local community and Ncell employees on Saturday, March 05.

The project has been an inclusive affair with participation from all stakeholders. Ncell has accomplished the rebuilding of the Launchaur Ground with the KMC Ward 26, and the local community.

Ncell took on the job to rebuild and maintain the Lainchaur Ground at the request of the local community members and Ward 26. Additionally, the company will now look over the maintenance of the ground for the next 2 years.

Multiple Sports on Astroturf

The newly rebuilt Lainchaur Ground includes multipurpose attractions for various recreational possibilities for all ages. It has a 7A size mini football ground, basketball court, and children’s play areas. Similarly, there are 50 trees, green areas, and sattal (a traditional resting shed) giving it a fresh and natural environment.

Besides, there are stone spouts, public restrooms, solar lights, and more. The ground is not just rebuilt, it is also flush with exhaustive features. Likewise, the ground stretches across an area of 54,921 sq ft making it a spacious platform for the visitors.

Likewise, Ncell has also set up an international standard Astroturf on the mini-football ground. This artificial grass will ideally fulfill the needs of the community for multiple sporting activities all year.

Furthermore, the Astroturf is installed on the ground in a way that integrates ecological components. It comprises 13 wells of 3 ft. diameter each. Similarly, the 10-15 feet depth underneath the turfs across the ground helps with the drainage and water percolation.

This will the water to flow along the drainage system passing through the wells like a rainwater harvesting system. The excess water will mix into the municipal drainage system.

Ncell’s Lainchaur Ground Project for “the clean, green and healthy city”

Ncell says upgrading the Lainchaur Ground for multipurpose will create a healthier environment for the community. The operator has committed to the responsibility to maintain to under its CSR initiative. The telco formalized it by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with KMC Ward 26 last year.

“As a socially responsible corporate citizen, Ncell accords high priority to sustainability and environment and we are delighted that in line with our commitment, we have rebuilt this great multi-purpose ground, contributing towards the clean, green and healthy city,” said Andy Chong, CEO of Ncell.

Khyam Tiwari, Chairman of KMC, Ward 26 said, “We have now first of its kind multi-facility sporting ground with the support of Ncell in our locality. Our modern mini-football ground with Astroturf makes is it usable during any day and season and it is very easy to maintain. This has been a great asset for our community people and ward, and it also adds value in the protection of open space in the city.”

Ram Bahadur Rajak (Ramba), vice president of Janawachanalaya and Pustakalaya Lainchaur Yuva Club and a local community member also shared his excitement. He said, “Our muddy ground has transformed into a complete multi-functional ground where our senior citizens can jog, local youth and students from nearby schools, colleges can play games. This will contribute to the development of sports and a clean city. We are very much thankful to Ncell for this project.”

Ncell Carrying gits CSR Legacy for Socio-Economic Development

The Lainchaur Ground project is part of Ncell for its commitment to climate action and the environment. Ncell says this project contributes to the government’s environmental goals under Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The environment is also one of the areas defined by the government in the Industrial Enterprise Rules 2019 for CSR.  And for its own part, Ncell has already invested 1.42 billion rupees in social projects since its inception in Nepal. Its CSR projects span across Health, Education and Environment, Disaster Preparedness and Response, and Livelihood Support among others with a primary focus on three main areas — Health, Education and Environment
