In Nepal, each of the mobile network operators has their own number range in mobiles. So, it is easy to identify the SIM operator or mobile operator from the number itself. NTA, the regulator has assigned the number range to each of these operators. These operators use the same mobile number range for the new number distribution. This post, we are providing the list of numbers for each of the operators.
Before telling the mobile number range of telecom operators in Nepal, we shall mention the mobile operator code that is unique in the whole world. It includes the Mobile Country Code (MCC) and Mobile Network Code (MNC).

All mobile numbers in Nepal start with digit 9 and have 10 digits. The second digit is a technology identifier. 7 is for CDMA and 8 is for GSM family. Smart Cell has the second digit of 6 which is also for GSM. Though in 2026, there are only two mobile operators, we have mentioned all of the mobile number ranges for all service providers (even if it is out of service).
Mobile Number range
984 is the oldest mobile number range for a SIM which is of Nepal Telecom GSM mobile (2G, 3G, 4G). Then came UTL which had different number range and later update to 972 range. Similarly, Ncell was operational with 980 number range. You can also check your mobile number yourself by dialing specific number.

The number ranges are for the operational SIM card for the different mobile networks in Nepal. NTA has also been planning to bring Mobile number portability in Nepal. For now, it is very easy to identify the SIM card for different mobile networks like Ntc, Ncell, e.t.c. But we won’t be able to identify the number range and also the technology for the mobile SIM cards once the number portability comes into operation.
