Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) and Telecommunications Standards Development Society (TSDSI) have reached a strategic partnership deal to develop 6G Standards. This could be a key development for the world’s third-largest telecommunications industry, which seeks to be a prominent player in the next-generation cellular technology.

The cooperation will amplify the country’s “Bharat 6G Vision”. According to this agreement, both will work closely on 6G standards, the country’s needs and priorities in 6G, and future technologies.

6G will be the successor to the currently growing 5G technology. India is aiming for its launch around 2030.

India first launched 5G in October 2022. As of now (August 2025), the country’s two largest telcos, Jio and Airtel, claim extensive 5G coverage across the country. It’s now gunning for 6G.

India gets strength for 6G Standards

Both Bharat 6G Alliance and TSDSI will cooperate on 6G standards as well as harmonize activities in their respective fields. TSDSI is delighted to have entered into this partnership with B6GA and looks forward to mutual alignment and harmonization of efforts in the respective areas of activities of TSDSI and B6GA, which will have a multiplier effect on research and development outcomes on the one hand and standard development and contributions to global standards on the other hand, said Ak Mittal, director-general of TSDSI.

Similar thoughts were echoed by Rajesh Kumar Pathak, director-general of Bharat 6G Alliance. He said, “Through this collaboration, Bharat 6G Alliance and TSDSI commit to harmonizing their activities in support of the government of India’s 6G Vision. The partnership will strengthen India’s participation in global standards development processes and ensure that national priorities are effectively represented in shaping the 6G and future technology landscape.”

India settings its own standards for 6G!

The B6GA and TSDSI alliance on Indian 6G standards is significant for the global 6G race. The country is actively seeking 6G standards that meet its needs and requirements. It’s clear that the South Asian giant is eager to set its own bar high instead of merely complying with technologies devised outside its borders. Let’s get back a few years.

In March 2023, India’s current prime minister, Narendra Modi, released the Bharat 6G Vision document. It stresses intelligent and safe connectivity for a high-quality user experience.

The country wants to ensure that 6G is affordable, sustainable, and widely available for users. The doctrine reflects India’s ambitions for 6G as it competes with the likes of China, the USA, and other countries aiming to take an early lead in the extremely high-throughput cellular network.

Do you think India is taking a bold steps forward with 6G activities? Will it play an important role on the development of the next-gen cellular network and its roll out? Do share your opinion in the comments below.
