Ncell files police complaint with CCTV footage over Ncell Icon vandalism

Nepal’s leading telco, Ncell, has registered a formal complaint at Kathmandu District Police Office over the vandalizing of its Ncell Icon building in Lainchaur. The damages were caused by mobs in the name of the Gen Z protest on September 09, 2025. The telco has said that some criminal group took advantage of the protests to damage the company’s properties and loot its valuable assets.

The Gen Z protests began on September 08 but turned violent on the following day. Vandals went on to destroy several infrastructures, including public offices and private enterprises. Ncell Icon building was one of the buildings that was heavily targeted during the protests. The telco says that the vandals have caused extensive damage to the building, which also serves as its headquarters in Nepal.

Ncell provided free data, voice, services during the Gen Z protests to ensure people get connectivity during tense situations.

Ncell submits CCTV footage of attackers

The telco has submitted CCTV footage of the attack and details of asset damage to assist police in the investigation. It says that it’s still assessing the totality of the damages and will provide additional details to the authorities for investigation.

Despite the damages, Ncell continued its services during the Gen Z protests.

Ncell demands an arrest for vandalism of the Ncell Icon building in Lainchaur

Ncell has demanded that the Kathmandu District Police arrest everyone involved in the vandalism of the Ncell Icon building and its infrastructure. The telco has sought a thorough investigation, prosecution of the culprits, help in recovery of stolen property, and compensation for the damages.

According to the company, the attackers, disguised as protesters, stormed the building after threatening the security guards. The guards were locked in a room and were warned to be burned alive if they resisted.

In their riot, the vandals smashed the front glass panels, entered inside, and damaged the customer service center and reception on the ground floor. They then set fire to the equipment and looted critical documents, including original certificates, licenses, land ownership certificates, cash, and company files.

Ncell shares damages to its infrastructures on Ncell ICON building

The attackers stole office equipment across ten floors, including computers, printers, refrigerators, coffee vending machines, etc. According to Ncell, the personal lockers of employees were broken, and laptops, jewelry, and other essential items were also taken away.

The assailants then dragged the company’s and third-party rental vehicles into the courtyard and torched them, causing more damage to the company. Employees’ personal vehicles parked around the premises were also burned.
