Clubhouse in Nepal: Why Is Everyone Talking About It?

Clubhouse in Nepal

Viral iOS app Clubhouse arrived in Nepal after its global launch on Android and has already become the talk of the town. Learn what makes it so unique and how you can also sign up to it and get going.

The clubhouse is an audio-based chat app that landed on Android recently. It lets you listen to other people talk about a topic that you like to listen to. The app creates a virtual space for you to meet new people, make friends, and engage in deeper conversations about your favorite topics. Let’s know more about it in detail.

One Of Its Kind

To begin with, the Clubhouse is a novelty by virtue. It is based on audio-chat. There is no video or photo sharing. You are listening to other people delivering their opinions on certain topics. Unlike other social media, it feels premium and exclusive because it is invite based app. You need an invitation code to enter into the app.

The app has gone really well with business people and iconic entrepreneurs who have inspired a huge following for the app. The limited people’s use of the app itself lent it an enormous appeal.

Journalists, social activists, influencers, entrepreneurs, politicians all can be seen inside chat rooms sharing their opinions with hundreds of others. It can be really overwhelming that you can suddenly listen to someone or even share ideas with them you have not thought would be possible. Especially the youth demography has found it a fascinating space to reach out and share their voices with a wider audience.

High Brow to Low Brow

All sections of people are on Clubhouse. The lockdown has certainly enticed more audiences who want their time away from regular Facebook and TikTok. They want a new space to go vocal about their inner feelings and meet new people. The clubhouse has been the perfect fit for them to lay it bare.

Not only you can find the socially elite engaging in sophisticated discussions, but you will also find sections of teenagers ranting on their teachers reminiscing their college days. You can also find triflers with no-filter in mundane chitchats. The clubhouse can be a space for both high to low culture talks and its diversity is infinite. Different people different choices.

But the lockdown stress can translate into Clubhouse with a barrage of undesirable expressions. Users certainly must be warier of their words and emotions and restrain themselves from giving away too much. There is a possibility of abuse and vulgarism to an excess that can not be tolerable.

As there is no video sharing, everybody is invisible except their profile picture. Therefore, some of them in the audience may try to misuse ‘freedom of expression’. The discretion must be maintained. Try to avoid following anonymous and fake profiles.

How To Get Started?

The app is invite-only. You can not just download the app, launch, and test the features in the app. Like an elite club, you must have a privilege of an invite code to enter. Every user gets to invite other friends by their number. The number of invitations allowed increases after having a significant involvement in the app.

The invitation does add value to you that you can enter the app with a hassle and not have it easy like on other social media platforms.

Check the steps below for sign up:

  • Download the Clubhouse app and launch it.
  • Click on Have an invite/Sign-in.
  • Enter your phone number which has received an invitation and click on next.
  • Now you will receive an OTP code via text on the number provided.
  • Enter the OTP code or let your phone do it with the “Autofill” feature and click on Next.
  • Now you can see your inviter. Proceed further and start updating your details.
  • Fill up your first and last name and click on Next.
  • Choose a unique username and again click on Next.
  • Now pick your profile picture from either your library or take a photo instantly.
  • Your profile is now set.
  • Give Clubhouse access to your phone contacts so that you can follow them later.
  • Now choose people or topics of your interests and start tuning in to them.

Clubhouse asks to access your phone’s contact list so that you could follow them later when they also create their accounts. Once Clubhouse finds users on your contact list, you will be notified and those who have no invites, you can also ‘let them in. Then you can follow the users once they are permitted inside the app.

Now comes the real deal. To start listening to your topics, Clubhouse asks you to choose people or subjects of your interest so that it can personalize rooms for you. Choose what or who you want.

Who To Follow?

Once you choose categories, Clubhouse recommends people to follow and suggests rooms to get into. You create your own space to your specifications. Choose who you want to follow, listen to, and start joining rooms and tune in. You can also select your topics from the gamut of lists such as sports, art, sports, business, etc. and etc.

After you are done with selecting topics and you will see ongoing conversations concerned which interests you. You will get many rooms aligned vertically on your screen. You can see the name of the room with other detail like the number of speakers and participants.

Once you click on it, you enter directly into the ongoing discussion. But you are now allowed to speak on entry. The moderator can allow you the chance when you click on the hand icon in the bottom right corner.

You can share your inputs on the topics once the moderator allows you to speak. It lets you stamp your mark among the other people who share an interest in the common topic.

Roam Around While Tuning In

You also get an option to scroll around for other rooms and search people while tuning in. Just click on ‘Hallway’ and now it minimizes the live screen and lets you explore other rooms.

If you want to join another room or want out of the ongoing conversation click on ‘Leave quietly’. It is just that simple.

Clubhouse follows a minimalistic design. It does not have any fancy sound effects or buttons. You launch the app, get into the live conversations, listen to and share your own input. You can plug in your earpiece, turn off the screen and go about your other tasks while tuning in. The app is super easy and fun.

Clubhouse is used by people who like to share their ideas and reach out to more people. If you want to learn something and share your own experience, this could be the right platform. Download Clubhouse on your Android Phone from here.

Many journalists, social elites, activists, and influencers can be found roaming through the rooms and sharing their opinion on various topics from current affairs, entrepreneurship skills, and politics and entertainment.

For those who want to share their experiences, and also learn more on various topics, it will prove to be a genuine platform. No pictures, no videos, no effects, right on purpose: listen in and share.

Start You Own Room

When you have a good following base, you might want to try getting yourself heard. For that, you can also start your own room for conversation. Click on ‘Start a room‘ and select a topic or add one and hit on ‘Let’s go‘. Give your device permissions for audio setup. Now you will be the host and can share your idea among followers and engage in discussions.

Clubhouse feels like radio because it is predominantly audio-based. You feel like you are listening to a radio program as you listen to few people on the go. You can also enter a room that offers continued music of a certain type. When a certain room grips you in, time will just fly without you noticing.

Clubhouse app has grown very popular in a short span among Nepali youth. After a week of its launch, it has found thousands of users and they can’t stop talking about it. We can find users pitching for it on TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter commonly which is giving it a word of mouth popularity. Soon, it will become one of the top social media apps for Nepali netizens.

A GIVEAWAY: Clubhouse app icon has left many asking: Who is the lady in the app icon? The app features keep changing their icon and for the next several weeks she will be the face of the Clubhouse app.

The lady in question is Drue Kataoka, a recognized visual artist who has more than 700,000 followers. She is the first Asian-American icon to feature as the representative of the Clubhouse app.
