On October 23, 2020, Huawei launched its all-new premium flagship “Mate 40 Series” in an Online Global Launch Event. The series feature three phones Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, and Mate 40 Pro Plus which are the direct successor of Huawei Mate 30 Pro and Mate 20 Pro. The new Mate Series is impressive both visually and technically. It also packs some incredible specifications and features. The Mate 40 Series is advertised with a “Leap Further Ahead” Phrase which suits the concept of the series. This series boasts some new and exciting features compared to that of Huawei P40 Series. Every Mate 40 Series comes with 5G connectivity. With this Series, the company wants its consumers to see beyond the horizon, explore the unknown, and leap boldly to the future. All Mate 40 phones come with a 90Hz refreshed rate FHD+ OLED display. 240Hz Touch Sampling and Under-display fingerprint sensor. But the screen resolution and punch-hole are different. Mate 40 has 2376x1080p resolution, Mate 40 Pro has 2772x1344p resolution and Mate 40 Pro Plus has 2772x1344p resolution.
The display is edge-to-edge 3D curved and the corners are rounded. 90Hz refreshed rate combined with 240Hz Touch Sampling gives users a smooth scrolling feeling. The display boasts an intelligent calibration that reveals content in vivid splendor. This makes the viewing experience more immersive and more enjoyable.
Coming to the build, all phones equips a Glass layer at front and back along with an Aluminum frame. This makes the build solid and there’s IP68 Water/Dust resistant. Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus has more curve in their display than that of Mate 40. In Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus, you can setup up volume controls virtually on the edges or stick to traditional keys.
Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus features a Pill-box punch hole whereas Mate 40 features a single punch hole. Both are located at the top corner of the display. Power Button and Volume rockers are placed at the left edge whereas the 3.5mm headphone jack at the top edge, the USB Type-C connector, and Hybrid SIM Tray at the bottom edge.
On the rear panel, there’s around camera that reminds of OnePlus 7T Pro. The back is polished and the finishes are impressive. Mystic Silver, White, Black, Green, and Yellow finishes are offered in Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro. Whereas for Mate 40 Pro, you have Ceramic White and Ceramic Black finishes. The finishes are so pleasing to the eyes at the first glance.
All phones from Huawei Mate 40 Series feature a Circular camera module on the rear side. The company calls it Space Ring Design and says that the first photo of the Black Hole inspired them to do so. The module has a circular module inside of it where there is a Leica Labeling.
Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro comes with a Quad rear camera setup that combines a 50MP main sensor, 16MP Cine Camera, 8MP Telephoto Camera, and a Laser Sensor. As for Mate 40 Pro Plus, it features Penta Camera Setup that combines 50MP Ultra Vision Camera, 20MP Cine Camera, 12MP Telephoto Camera, 8MPSuperZoom Camera, and 3D Depth Sensing Camera.
On the front side, Mate 40 has a single 13MP Camera sensor confined at the punch-hole. Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus has a little upgrade that includes a 3D Depth Sensing Camera that also helps in gesture control. This front camera showcases the best selfies and the adaptive selfie mode supports three types of wide angles. The selfies are staggeringly good.
The 50MP main sensor comes with an RYYB Color filter array, Octa PD Auto-focus, and OIS that produces astonishing clarity in photos. The cine-camera sensor adds further cinematic style to your photos and videos. XD Fusion HDR Video mode significantly enhances video quality and little-to-no over-exposure across images.

The Mate 40 equips a Kirin 9000E chipset whereas Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus equips Kirin 9000 chipset. These 5nm chipsets are packed with more than 15 billion transistors and are compatible with 5G connectivity. It’s also capable of multitasking, processing massive amounts of data, and powering instantly-responsive AI computing easily.
The CPU is the same as all three phones. 3.31 GHz Octa-core CPU is integrated inside the devices that are made for improved performance and power efficiency. When it comes to GPU, Mate 40 Pro and Mate Pro Plus come with a more powerful 24-core Mali-G78 GPU than that 22-core Mali-G78 GPU. This GPU handles heavy graphics with ease and delivers impressive image processing capabilities for a heightened gaming experience. 3D audio dual speakers and vibrators add up more to the gaming experience.
The NPU also pushes AI processing to new heights. This helps across a wide range of functions including camera features, gesture controls, and AI-assisted object recognition. Gesture control is further enhanced and you can do a lot more with it. With can turn on the display with just a look of your eyes. Volume controls and swiping through contents or interacting can be done.

The Huawei Mate 40 costs 899 Euro for the 8GB/128GB variant, Mate 40 Pro costs 1,199 Euro for the 8GB/256GB variant, and Mate 40 Pro Plus costs 1,399 Euro for the 12GB/256GB variant. Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro comes in the same color finishes; Mystic Silver, White, Black, Green, Yellow. Mate 40 Pro Plus comes in only two color finishes that are Ceramic Black and Ceramic White.
The predecessor series of Mate 40 has been successfully launched in Nepal that increases the chances of the launching of Mate 40 Series in Nepal. If launched in Nepal, Huawei Mate 40 Price in Nepal could be 1 Lakh 30 Thousand. Huawei Mate 40 Series is one of the most technically enhanced phone to date. In terms of Camera, it can beat Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and iPhone 12 Series. Mate 40 Pro even scored the highest score in the DXO Mark, Yes the camera performance is that good. The phone topped the Smartphone camera and Smartphone Selfie segment.
