Meizu is set to reenter Nepal, to compete with existing players

Meizu Phone in Nepal

Chinese smartphone brand Meizu is making a comeback in Nepal. The company is in its latest effort to re-enter the Nepali market that it left a few years ago. Now, it’s ready to launch a new batch of phones to kickstart its second coming. Below, we have more details.

Meizu to reenter Nepal with Teletalk

It’s been reported that Meizu will make its comeback in Nepal with Teletalk as its local partner. It’s the same company that is responsible for the transaction of Xiaomi phones in Nepal. So, it could be a strategically decent and effective move.

The comeback of Meizu in Nepal follows recent trends of other smartphone companies reentering Nepal. Motorola has started selling Moto phones via CG Mobile. ZTE is also returning in Nepal with ZTE Blade A71 via Shanker Group as its local partner. So, Meizu’s is not an isolated event but another instance of a smartphone brand seeking to claim its market share, again.

Meizu phones in Nepal: History and the road ahead

Meizu was a renowned smartphone brand around 2015. It was marked for sleek, stylish, and innovative phones back in its heyday. Meizu M9 was one of its standout phones. However, the company faded amidst fierce competition from OEMs such as Xiaomi, Huawei, vivo, etc.

The tough domestic competition directly affected its business presence abroad. Gradually, it lost its prominence, and around 2020, it almost disappeared from the smartphone market. The company started its operations around 2003.

Then in 2022, Geely, a company behind firms like Volvo, bought Meizu. Following this, the brand has stressed not just phones but creating an ecosystem of mobile devices, cars, and other electronic devices.

Recently, the company unveiled Meizu Note 22, MBLU 22, and MBLU 22 Pro, marking its strong will and ambition to stamp its mark in the smartphone industry once again.

Meizu could bring budget but cutting-edge phones in Nepal

Meizu could bring stylish and innovative phones to Nepal at a reasonable price. It’s known that Nepal is a price-sensitive market, and for brands other than Samsung and Apple, selling high-end flagship phones could be tricky. Meizu can tap into this very budget segment market and lure in customers with its richly specced and affordable handsets.

Motorola has been doing the same in Nepal since its comeback. It’s launching affordable phones, mostly with some even coming with 5G support, despite a lower price tag. Meizu is likely to follow suit. But it will face serious challenges from existing heavyweights such as Samsung, Xiaomi, vivo, realme, etc.

As for customers, it’s great that more smartphone brands are entering Nepal with their cutting-edge innovations and budget-friendly devices. It helps trickle down technologies to more users at affordable rates.

So far, Meizu hasn’t officially announced when it will relaunch in Nepal. But as details emerge, we will update them on this page.

By the way, have you ever used a Meizu phone? How was it in terms of features and specifications compared to other Android phones? Do share your opinion on its relaunch in Nepal in our comment section below.
