Nepal Telecom 4G to launch on Jan 1 2017

Nepal Telecom 4G is known to be launched on the first day of the new year 2017, according to news and sources. Nepal Telecom, the government owned company is currently testing 4G in their network and they are gearing up for the launch in two cities. The two cities are Kathmandu, the capital and Pokhara city.

Previously Nepal Telecom has got the license to operate 4G in 1800 MHz band. They have also committed the same date (Poush 17 in Nepali) to the regulator for the launch. Now that the date nears very close, it is known that they have already on aired the sites in Kathmandu and Pokhara. The fast deployment is possible as Nepal Telecom make use of existing infrastructure to build 4G network. It is only minor hardware and software upgrade in the existing equipment for operating 4G technology. Nepal Telecom is now testing 4G in their network. Once they assure of the smooth network, it will be commercially available to the customers.

What can we expect from Nepal Telecom 4G?

Nepal Telecom 4G will be available in the inside ring road area & some outskirts area of Kathmandu and inside Pokhara city only. With Nepal Telecom 4G, you can have fast speed internet access . But for voice call, phone will fall back to either 2G or 3G. The maximum speed we can get with Nepal Telecom 4G is 30 Mbps in down-link, 10 Mbps in up-link. For a loaded network, the speed gets down to 10 to 12 Mbps down-link and 5 to 7 Mbps up_link. There is no voice over LTE (VOLTE) call available currently with Nepal Telecom 4G. The latency will also be very low, which is in the order of around 10 milliseconds. As learned, the real time broadcast and HD video streaming will be very smooth from Nepal Telecom 4G. So, the browsing experience will be very smooth as known from 4G users from other parts of the world.
