Xiaomi announced about this new technology via its official Twitter handle. Mi Air Charge is a wireless charging technology that allows users to charge multiple devices without the need for cables and wireless stand. It is a big step towards wireless charging technology. Xiaomi has also released a short video showing the new tech in action.

How Does Mi Air Charge Work?

Now coming to the working mechanism of the Mi Air Charge Technology. The core technology of Xiaomi’s remote charging lies in space positioning and energy transmission. Xiaomi has five phase interference antennas for its self-developed isolated charging pile. It helps to accurately detect the location of the devices in a room. It uses a 144 beamforming antenna that transmits millimeter-wave signals directly to the device. The millimeter-wave spectrum is the same band that is used for 5G networks.

But it doesn’t work for every smartphone so they need to fit a miniaturized antenna array with two antenna arrays. The first is a built-in “beacon antenna” that broadcasts your location. As for second antenna array, it’s a “receiving antenna array”. It converts the received millimetre-wave signal into electric energy through the rectifier circuit and uses it to charge the device. The receiving antenna array is composed of a total of 14 antennas.

As per Xiaomi, currently, remote charging technology is only capable of a maximum power of 5W remote charging for a single device within a radius of several meters.

Release Date

Sadly, the brand has not disclosed anything about the launch date of the gadget. At the moment, it’s only a futuristic concept but we can hope to get the device after 4 or 5 years.

Xiaomi envisions making our room’s living rooms fully wireless. Needless to say but after the product becomes the reality, it will take us to the new era of wireless charging. As one might be skeptical about the product, Xiaomi has said that “It’s not science fiction, it’s technology.”

So, what’s your take on this new wireless charging technology? Will it be successful? Share your views in the comment section below.
