Nokia and CG partners to deploy GPON in Kathmandu to extend fiber access for high-speed broadband internet in Kathmandu. The plan is to cover 5000 km within its fiber network in the first phase.

Nokia has announced its collaboration with CG NET and will deploy GPON (Gibit Passive Optical Networking ) solutions to extend Fiber-to-the-home reach in the capital.

CG NET Fiber Internet has already begun in Kathmandu to great elation. Its debut with a record 120Mbps connection for just Rs.999 has taken the ISP industry by storm. With Nokia’s GPON, CG will offer ultra-reliable broadband speed and add a range of services to boost its customer base.

Initially, the roll-out will cover 5000 km with a fiber network in the densely populated urban areas of Kathmandu Valley. CG NET’s fiber is currently available in select areas such as Jawalakhel, Jhamsikhel, and Ekantakuna. The company has affirmed its plans to take its benchmark fiber net solutions across Kathmandu by the end of 2021.

Nokia’s next-gen GPON solutions will allow CG NET to cost-effectively scale its fiber network sooner. The plan is expected to complement the growing need for high-speed bandwidth for the consumption of video, OTT, video streaming, and e-learning.

Nokia’s GPON For Fastest Broadband Speed

Nokia’s GPON will help CG NET to maintain its appeal with the fastest broadband speeds to Nepali customers. Furthermore, it will allow CG to offer many competitive services such as IPTV, work from home, e-learning, gaming, and etc.

In addition to that, Nokia’s GPON will allow CG for future upgrades to next-generation technologies. It will also offer Software-Defined Access networks in the future, strengthening the same access platform. The project includes Nokia’s fiber modems for premium digital experiences within the user premises.

Nirvana Chaudhary, Managing Director, CG NET, emphasized the growing demands for high-speed broadband internet. He admitted Nepali broadband market is highly competitive. However, he maintained, “CG NET has all the potential and ambition to become a digitally innovative, responsible telecom group. We are confident that Nokia’s solution will enable us to be fast to market with reliable, high-speed services, and position us for future growth.”

Likewise, Vinish Bawa, Head of Emerging Business at Nokia India, shared his own excitement. He said, “Fiber broadband is being deployed in almost every country. With more than 1,000 broadband projects worldwide, Nokia has the experience and expertise to support operators in diverse markets in addressing their unique challenges. We are excited to work with CG NET to build a high capacity network that will enable them to address new opportunities and deliver exciting experiences to the subscribers.”

What Is GPON?

GPON or Gigabit Passive Optical Networking is a technology that uses fiber optics to reach the end-users. This fiber allows for faster transmission of data from vendors to end-users. GPON allows ISPs to add many services such as Triple Play (voice, TV, and TV) via single fiber optics.

CG NET has entered into ISP market with an explosion and will not stay content with the sole fiber net package for expansion. Flushed with capital and resources, it will execute robust strategies to become a key competitor as an Internet Service Provider. Check out: Best Internet service providers in Nepal

Nokia is a global market leader in fiber broadband which provides next-gen GPON service to enhance fiber internet service. It currently boasts more than 300 GPON deployments worldwide.

What have you made up of CG NET’s game-changing 120Mbps fiber net package? Nokia’s GPON solution will help CG deliver the fastest fiber-net in the country with more services soon. Will it compel you for a switch once it becomes available? Drop your opinions in the comments below.
