NTC is giving away free SIM cards to senior citizens. Celebrating the International Senior Citizens Day on October 1, the state-owned telco is offering SIM cards free of cost to senior citizens. The recipient must be over 60 years old to be eligible for this offer.

In the Nepali calendar, the International Senior Day falls on Ashoj 15. On this occasion, NTC is paying its homage to the senior citizens by offering free SIM cards. To be eligible for this offer, the interested citizens must be 60 or above.

NTC’s free SIM card offer for senior citizens will be effective from Ashoj 15 till 25. The offer is available throughout the country.

What’s In NTC’s Senior Citizens SIM Card?

NTC (Nepal Telecom) says the SIM card will come with Rs.10 balance. Likewise, the SIM card will also feature 40 minutes of talk time, 20 SMS, and 60 MB data. These resources will be valid for a month’s time.

Don’t miss: NTA to allow purchase of SIM card without carrying official documents

To receive the SIM card, the senior citizens must visit the nearest NTC counter and produce a PP-size photo. Similarly, a document such as citizenship or Senior Citizen ID will be a must to verify their age. The offer is available at all NTC counters across the country.

NTC’s Senior Citizen’s offer is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. The state-telco expects that the offer will help senior citizens have access to communications and stay connected with their loved ones.

NTC’s offer will bring more people into its 4G broadband network. The company’s 4G has widened to 92% of total coverage around the country and is gearing for 5G trails.

Free SIM cards to senior citizens will widen broadband access among the citizens and help them utilize advanced internet as well as VoLTE for HD voice calls.

NTC has also brought Namaste pay; a digital payment platform with offline payment capability which is also helpful for senior citizens. With Namaste pay, they can make payments without being adrift in using smartphones or applications.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
