Nepal’s leading telecom company Ncell Axiata has reached an agreement with Truphone to facilitate an easier distribution of its eSIM. Truphone is a leading British eSIM platform that will now help the private telco in the implementation of next-gen SIM technology as part of its digital transformation.

The partnership brings a host of digital experiences for Ncell’s over 17 million users. Subscribers of Ncell eSIM will receive benefits such as point-of-sale functionality, faster, easier profile downloads, and self-service capability. Truphone uses key technologies such as Remote SIM Provisioning Platform (RSP), and eSIM Launch Pad to provide digital eSIM services.

Ncell started its eSIM service on November 25th, 2022 after months of trial availability. Unlike regular physical SIM cards that go into the phone, eSIM is embedded into the phone.  It’s a chip inside a phone that serves the function of a SIM. It can’t be removed even when it’s stolen which is handy for its retrieval. Additionally, this technology allows switching between multiple eSIM profiles.

Regarding the partnership, Truphone CEO Harry Odenhoven expressed his delight. He said, “As a pioneer in eSIM technology we’re delighted at the opportunity to accelerate Ncell’s eSIM and make Nepal’s leading mobile network even more innovative, not to mention sustainable by saving tonnes of plastic waste. Truphone’s vision is and has always been, to create a more seamlessly connected world and this marks a significant first step in that direction. Ncell is an innovative partner, and we look forward to creating a futureproof solution for its customers.”

Likewise, Ncell CEO Andy Chong shared similar feelings. “We’re delighted that Ncell customers can now upgrade their physical SIM to embedded SIM (eSIM) and take the benefits from eSIM on their compatible devices. We believe that eSIM will play a crucial role in the context of the entire ecosystem development of ICT in Nepal, as connected devices are set to grow in both customer and enterprise segments and partnership with Truphone was an easy choice for us as they offered the power to accelerate our eSIM with tools for rapid deployment, fast development, and powerful self-service. They share our passion for innovation and our partnership with them is in line with our commitment to introducing new technology and services to serve our customers”.

Truphone’s eSIM Launch Pad platform is an enabler that helps deliver eSIM for networks on smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. The company provides geo-redundancy as a standard. Ncell can use implement this zero downtime for its services and keep customers connected around the clock.

Partnership with Truphone gives Ncell complete control of its eSIM service. Truphone says that with their partnership, Ncell can update thousands of Ncell eSIM profiles in an instant saving both time and money.
