Samsung Could Soon Remove Chargers from its Budget Smartphones

Samsung might remove chargers from its budget-friendly smartphones. First, Android OEMs let go of the headphone jack and earphones on their high-end devices. Then, the trend started with chargers for the same premium devices. And now, it seems, the South Korean phone maker has adopted the policy on its mid-range Galaxy lineups.

There are reports that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy device with A14 won’t come with a bundled charger. The news (yet to be confirmed) comes through tipster Ahmed Qwaider who claims that the non-5G variant of the Galaxy A14 won’t come with a charger out of the box. Instead, it will feature just a USB Type-C cable for charging and data transfer purposes. In the meantime, The 5G variant of the Galaxy A14 has been launched in Nepal at an affordable cost.

Samsung might remove the chargers on cost-efficient Galaxy smartphones including the Galaxy A14

If it’s true, then the decision might start Samsung’s new policy regarding packing chargers before shipping phones. Galaxy A14 could become the cheapest Samsung phone not to come with a charger in the box. And the recently launched Samsung Galaxy A34 and A54 5G now also ships without a charger.

Anyway, it’s becoming a standard practice to ship devices without a headphone jack and earphones. What’s more interesting is that when Apple chalked off the hardware, Android counterparts across the board laughed off the decision. But now, Android smartphone OEMs are also emulating the practice at large.

Phone makers argue that not packing a smartphone charger in the box is down to reducing waste and making devices more environment-friendly. However, phones still need them for charging. So, companies continue to sell them in different packaging which only contributes to add to their profits. So, it’s highly debated whether phone manufacturers are correctly justified in removing chargers and other features from their devices.

If it happens in reality, Samsung’s decision to remove chargers for its budget smartphones might apply to A and M series phones in the coming months and years.
