Telecom regulator Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has directed Smart Cell to continue its telecom service. The telling comes after Smart’s network mysteriously turned off in various parts of the country.

The authority said that it has taken strong notice of the telco’s network outage issue in some parts of the country. It’s a division of the monitoring body that has thus asked the telco to resume its services.

Earlier, Smart users from many areas complained that the Smart Cell network has been out for months without any official notice. While some users said the network came back online after maintenance, others said there was no intervention for months. We also write a post on the growing cases of Smart Cell’s network disruption in various parts of Nepal. In the post, you can find out the state of the private operator’s network status in different areas where it has been operating as per users’ complaints.

“The telecommunication service provider is classified as an essential service. Therefore, it becomes its duty to continue to operate its telecommunication service in compliance with the laws and regulations”.

The regulator said that as long as Smart has its license in force, it must continue services.

NTA Tells Smart Cell To Continue Its Telecom Service

NTA has said, “Smart Telecom Pvt. Ltd. will operate the telecommunication service efficiently so that the customers can enjoy the service without any interruption as long as the license of the telecommunication service, which is an essential service, remains in force”.

Smart Cell’s license is expiring on Baisakh 02 over its failure to pay off dues. However, the telco has pulled its services in many parts of the country. Reportedly, the telco has Rs 30 billions of total liability to clear off to keep its unified license.
