Google to bring different ringtone and notification sliders

Pixel 7 Pro Price in Nepal

Google is all set to bring two separate ringtone and notification sliders. The feature will be rolled out with the company’s next-generation smartphone OS Android 14.

So far, Google Pixel and vanilla Android phones only had one slider that worked for both ringtone and notification volume control. The lack of a dedicated slider meant both features would get an equal sound level which won’t sit well with everyone.

But the company had been working on splitting the singular volume controls for a while. In fact, the separate volume control sliders are one of the most demanded features by Android phone users. Samsung and other manufacturers already offer separate sound controls. Pixel and other brand phone users have had to do without it. The solution could arrive this fall with Android 14.

Google bringing separate ringtone and notification sliders

The Google Issue Tracker from late 2021 marks the request for different volume sliders “fixed”. It’s also “confirmed” by a Google staff” that the feature is coming to a future Android 14 release. The date is not yet disclosed though.

android separate ringtone and notification sliders option

Separated sliders did surface in the Android 14 DP2 in March however weren’t immediately available after an update. In the meantime, Esper’s Mishaal Rahman observed that Google was working on it since Android 13 QPR2 Beta. Enabling a flag limited its access though. Now, Google seems to have enabled the flag with Android 14 OS. However, there will still be some limitations of some sort. Despite the two different volume controls, setting a phone to vibration mode would mute its ringtone and notification volumes.

A future Android 14 beta could bring “it”

Reportedly, there are no changes coming on Android 14 Beta 1.1 regarding the two separate volume controls. But what it means is a future update will bring the option with a beta Android 14 release.

Anyway, what mattered most is the two different ringtone and notification volume controls and Google is bringing it soon. The only wish is that only if they brought that with the proper functions and abilities. Was it inconvenient for you to have the single slider on a phone for those two volume options? Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
