The digital service of the National ID card has disappeared on the Nagarik app. The icon is still there on the app; however, upon tapping on it, it fails to show details. But there’s less to worry about it as the service shall come back again soon. Here’s why.

According to the Department of National ID and Civil Registration, the National Identity Management Information System (NIDMIS) has run into a technical issue, and right now, maintenance work is ongoing. Which is why NID has gone offline on the popular app. Therefore, it has been said that services related to NID will be down for the time being.

At the moment, if you tap on the NID icon on Nagarik App, it shows “Service is currently unavailable. Please, try again after sometime.”

The department has informed all National Identity Card Service Stations to make arrangements to continue work offline. It has likewise, also requested the general public to cooperate in the work. It further adds that those who have registered their National Identity Card details offline will receive their National Identity Number (NIN) via SMS once the online service is resumed.

“The department apologizes for the inconvenience caused to the general public due to the partial disruption of the National Identity Card service,” the statement said.

What services will be down during the National ID outage of Nagarik App:

The department says that the following services will remain unavailable while the maintenance work is carried out for identity card-related services.

  • Online National Identity Card details collection and card distribution service
  • National Identity Card details correction service
  • National Identity Number (NIN) service during birth registration
  • National Identity Number (NIN) / Biometric Verification (BID) service during name registration and renewal of social security allowance beneficiaries
  • Passport, Bank and Financial Institutions, Company Registrar, Citizen App, Foreign Employment, National Bookstore, Permanent Account Number (PAN), and other public services interconnected with the National Identity Management Information System (NIDMIS)

UPDATE: As of writing this article, PAN is showing on the app. It was off just a while back.

Prior to this, the Driving License also went offline on Nagarik app after damage to the transport department’s server during the Gen Z protest. But after data recovery, the service came back. As of now, not just NID, citizenship, PAN, etc., are not showing on Nagarik App. Hopefully, they come back live on the app very soon.
