Ncell says the recent political text message saga has strongly drawn its attention. In a formal statement, the private telco clarified that the unauthorized SMS was not sent to Ncell customers.
In its statement, the company said that the politically motivated SMS texts went through a “bulk SMS service provider. Thankfully, no Ncell customers were affected by this.
Recently, thousands of mobile users reported receiving the SMS with political intent. Various media have reported that a VAS provider sent over 5 million texts on a single day. As a result, many users questioned the security of their personal contact information and details. Ncell’s official statement will give relief to the users who were anxious about their data’s exposure to the wrong hands.
Over the same issue, NT said that it doesn’t provide user details to any organizations. But the incident has sparked fears among users regarding their user data security.
Ncell asserts zero tolerance for misuse of service amidst political text message saga
Ncell says that it holds a “zero-tolerance policy towards misuse of telecom services for unauthorized and politically motivated purposes.” Likewise, the company conducted a review of the incident and assessed its potential risks. Afterwards, it has warned Aakash Tech, a Value-Added Service (VAS) provider that has a partnership with the company that was involved in issuing those text messages.
Ncell stresses that it prohibits the misuse of its services. The company further added that it completely discourages activities that violate prevailing laws, ethical standards, and those that compromise user data privacy.
Ncell has also received ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certifications, the first telco from Nepal for information security and data privacy. And likely, it maintains that it holds the “highest standards of customer data security and personal privacy.“

Ncell expresses commitment to user data privacy
In its statement, Ncell emphasized its commitment to user data privacy. It said that the company has in place “robust technical, operational, and contractual safeguards” to protect customers’ personal data. “Customer data is not shared or allowed to be misused for any unauthorized purpose,” the company emphatically said.
Once again, the company reiterated that it complies with the country’s prevailing laws and safeguards the trust of customers and stakeholders while ensuring reliable services.
