Nepal Telecom (NTC) has successfully convened its 18th annual general meeting (AGM) on Poush 30, 2082. The event was held at Rashtriya Sabha Griha, Pradarshani Marga, Kathmandu. As reported earlier, NT passed a proposal to distribute Rs 30 dividends per share on revenues from FY 2081/82.
The general meeting had the presence of shareholders representing about 91.56% of the shares in the company. The meeting unanimously discussed and passed the annual report of the Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2081/82 and the auditor’s report, as well as the balance sheet, profit and loss account, cash flow statement, and other schedules for the month of Ashar, 2082.
On this occasion, Radhika Aryal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company and Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT), welcomed the shareholders present at the general meeting. As customs has it, she presented the company’s 18th annual report.
During her report presentation, she stressed that the company is operating in a fiercely competitive environment. And despite challenges, itis focusing on the expansion of services instead of generating revenues. She further shared that the company is actively expanding services in geographically remote and remote areas, playing an additional supportive role in the field of e-governance, and reducing the digital divide by building an information highway through optical fiber.

She also said that the company may have to initiate mega projects. At the same time, she said that the company might need additional capital and said the company would provide bonus shares if necessary. Chairman Aryal said, “Amidst various adversities seen in the internal and external environment, the company has succeeded in earning a total revenue of Rs. 38.19 billion and a profit of Rs. 6 billion in FY 2081/82.
During the review period, the company has contributed to the national economy by paying Rs. 18.46 billion as revenue to the Government of Nepal out of its total income for taxes and fees.” She also informed that the work of income assurance testing, performance testing, and technical testing has been given priority to minimize risks and said that the company has been providing support in the fields of environmental protection, health, education, and sports as usual in the course of fulfilling its corporate social responsibility.
5G on its way
Aryal acknowledged people’s strong desire to test the 5G network on their 5G phones. She also shared that the company is in the process of resuming the service from the country’s capital and major cities in the near future. We have written an article highlighting that NT plans to launch 5G in Kathmandu and Pokhara in FY 2082/83.

Despite telecom industry challenges, NT continues to expand and upgrade services, she stressed. She pointed to the continuous expansion of VoLTE and FTTH (NT Fiber) services to make information technology more qualitative and effective.
BTS status
By mid-Ashoj 2082, NT has increased 4G access to 749 local levels in 77 districts. By Asoj 2082, high-speed FTTH services have been expanded to all 77 districts of the country. She said that 143 BTSs were added to 2G and 109 BTSs to 4G during the review period, bringing the total number of BTSs in operation to 4,542 BTSs in 2G, 2,994 BTSs in 3G, and 4,437 BTSs in 4G.

Aryal said that service expansion is ongoing with the drive to promote connectivity across Nepal. She stated that the policy of expanding High Bandwidth Connectivity and Content-based Value Added Services has been continued, while also mentioning the support of the Rural Telecommunications Development Fund to achieve maximum returns.

By the end of FY 2081/82, NT expanded its network across 8,834 kilometers to expand the optical fiber network on the mid-hill highways and various routes connecting the district headquarters under Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces.

Need to attract users to data services
Chairman Aryal said that users’ attraction towards data services is increasing. Therefore, she said, NT will focus on improving quality with proper policies and increasing market share. She also shared that a relationship will be established with national and foreign organizations to expand Value Added Service and Content-Based Service.
The Chairman of the company expressed his commitment to gradually implement the various suggestions given by the shareholders at the general meeting.

The company has made arrangements to distribute the dividend amount to the general shareholders through NMB Bank starting today (Poush 30, 2082).
