Recently, we have had smartphones headlining the news for testing large batteries. But what is large anyway? Samsung could redefine the term as leaks surface that the company is testing an enormous 20000mAh battery for smartphones.
As wild as it sounds, so would it be in real life. People have posted videos on YouTube installing a brick-like battery to power their flagship phones for days to weeks. But we are not talking about makeshift accessories. We are talking about a real battery that sits inside a phone, and Samsung could be cooking something that dwarfs every other advancement in the segment so far.
What’s even more fascinating is that the South Korean brand has been rather infamous for keeping its batteries at 5000mAh even for premium ones such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Tipster phonefuturist says that Samsung SDI could be testing a dual-cell 20,000mAh battery for smartphones. It’s reportedly a silicon-carbon battery, and that makes it even better to simply hear, as it’s next-gen and the current standard for smartphone batteries.
The tipster mentions that the dual-cell comprises a 12,000mAh cell at 6.3mm in thickness and an 8,000mAh cell with 4 mm thickness. And there’s more about it. It’s been said that the battery delivered 27 hours of screen time and 960 annual charge cycles.

What’s in the smartphone battery future?
Samsung’s 20,000mAh battery testing may be true or just an internet heresy. The information comes from a less reliable source. And a battery this large may as well take time to be practically possible for a phone. But technology has infinite possibilities, and we may be looking into just a few years into the future. And maybe, it’s all true, but Samsung SDI may be testing it for electric vehicles or other gadgets.
The more likely possibility is that Xiaomi is testing a 9000mAh battery for its future smartphones.
One thing is for sure. There used to be a time when battery would be a central concern for smartphone buyers. That’s way past us.
